Hello, I’m Yu Mianrong, the chief physician of the Endocrinology Department of Beijing Bo’ai Hospital, China Rehabilitation Research Center. Welcome to the thyroid nodules course of the Medical Body Academy.
Many people think that they are not far from "hyperthyroidism" or "big neck disease" after finding the diagnosis of thyroid nodules during the physical examination. From then on, they must say goodbye to seafood and quit iodized salt. Once there are nodules in the thyroid gland, there are many more taboos in daily diet?
1, diet of thyroid nodules
- Thyroid nodules with hyperthyroidism
If the thyroid nodules are accompanied by hyperthyroidism, such as thyroid inflammatory nodules, nodular goiter, thyroid adenoma, thyroid adenocarcinoma At that time, we must strictly avoid iodine diet. Because iodine is an essential element for the synthesis of thyroid hormone, intake of iodine can aggravate the condition of hyperthyroidism.
At this time, we should pay attention to avoid eating all seafood, such as kelp, seaweed, jellyfish, sea crabs, sea shellfish, sea fish, sea shrimp, because they are rich in iodine, so friends with hyperthyroidism patients We can't eat anymore. Secondly, we also need to keep in mind that we must consume non-iodized salt. For example, we can use non-iodized salt for cooking at home to minimize eating out. In addition, eat less irritating foods such as green onions, pepper, cinnamon, and hot peppers. Because when we are in hyperthyroidism, our body itself is easier to excite, and irritating foods may aggravate our symptoms. Also avoid fatty fried food, coffee, tea, etc.
In addition, because hyperthyroidism will make our body in a high metabolic state, the body’s energy consumption is large, so the diet of patients with thyroid nodules with hyperthyroidism should be high in calories, high protein, high vitamins and calcium, Phosphorus supplementation will further correct the consumption caused by hypermetabolism and improve the nutritional status of our whole body. We can choose various starch-rich foods such as rice, noodles, steamed buns, potatoes, pumpkins, etc. We can also eat pork, beef, mutton, etc., and milk, nuts and other foods rich in calcium and phosphorus.
In addition to diet, we should also try to avoid using iodine-containing drugs and cosmetics. Iodine-containing drugs, such as anti-arrhythmic drugs amiodarone, iodine used for disinfection, contrast media for CT enhancement, iodine-containing vitamin tablets, etc. On some cold medicines, we can see the words "Use with caution in hyperthyroidism patients" because these medicines contain pseudoephedrine, which can cause our heart rate to increase. Iodine-containing cosmetics, such as facial cleansers, shampoos, facial masks, and foot bath powders containing seaweed ingredients should also be avoided.
The following is paid content
If there is no hyperthyroidism, in some cases thyroid nodules, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, thyroid papillary carcinoma, etc., only need a low-iodine diet. To put it simply, iodine cannot be less, but not too much, because these conditions cause thyroid nodules, which may be related to excessive iodine intake. At this time, we can eat iodized salt, but we must limit high-iodine foods such as kelp and seaweed. At the same time, high-fiber foods such as green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and fresh fruits should be appropriately increased.

Second, pay attention to your daily diet
Presumably you also understand now that the iodine in the diet has a great impact on the thyroid. In fact, insufficient or excessive intake of iodine can cause thyroid nodules. At the same time, iodine deficiency is also the main cause of goiter.
Therefore, people located in plateaus and mountainous areas should cook vegetables with iodized salt in their daily diet. People in coastal areas should control their intake of iodine and their consumption of iodized salt. Generally speaking, the daily intake of iodine is 100-165 micrograms for adult men and 100-115 micrograms for adult women. Pregnant women generally need to increase by 10-15 micrograms.
In addition, we can also eat some protein-rich foods, such as lean meat, eggs, milk, beans, which can not only supplement the nutrients the body needs, but also improve our body’s immunity. Prevention is also quite beneficial. At the same time, we should eliminate bad habits such as smoking and drinking, and reduce the intake of fried, grilled, and preserved foods. In your daily diet, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and eat less expired foods.
For foods containing artificial chemical synthesis, we should eat less. This is because the thyroid tissue in our body requires thyroid hormones, and biochemical synthesis reactions occur almost all the time, and the enzymes needed to catalyze this reaction are susceptible to damage and interference by harmful chemicals. Especially some synthetic chemical substances, such as thiocyanate, perchlorate, pesticides, organic chemical gases, excessive food additives, etc. When these chemicals appear on food, it is easy to induce nodules.
Finally, smokers should avoid and eat a large amount of cruciferous foods rich in thiocyanate, such as broccoli, radish, cabbage, etc. in a short time. Avoid eating cruciferous foods and fruits rich in flavonoids, such as oranges, pears, apples, and grapes. Eat more canola, mustard greens, kiwi fruit and other foods that reduce swelling. Eat more shiitake mushrooms, mushrooms, fungus, walnuts, coix seed, red dates, yam, fresh fruits, etc., which can enhance immunity.
Third, to avoid thyroid being oppressed
We should try to wear loose tops and try not to tie a bow tie. In short, it is to ban items that can squeeze into the thyroid.
This is the end of the course on thyroid nodules. I hope that these contents can help you, your family members and friends who are troubled by thyroid nodules. Thank you for listening!
