"The Laba rice porridge has arrived, and the porridge is fragrant." In the middle of winter, the weather is cold and the ground is freezing. Drinking the warmest Laba porridge will warm your stomach and heart. During the traditional Chinese festival "Laba Festival ", in order to further promote traditional Chinese culture and convey the deep care for the villagers in the area, the Day Care Center of Jielu Village, Wuzhong District, Suzhou City launched the "The Fragrant Porridge Warms the Neighborhood and Deeply Loves the Laba Festival" activity.

As the saying goes, "After Laba Festival, it is the New Year." On this day every year, drinking a bowl of Laba porridge to pray for blessings, ward off epidemics, and pray for peace and prosperity in the new year is a custom that has been passed down in China for thousands of years. In order for the elderly to enjoy a bowl of carefully sweet and glutinous Laba porridge, the staff carefully selected various ingredients such as glutinous rice, red beans, black rice , peanuts, and red dates, washed them in advance, and soaked the ingredients in a pot overnight. The staff came to the day care center early in the morning to cook porridge. After carefully cooking for several hours, a fragrant, soft and glutinous pot of Laba porridge was ready. Taking into account the cold weather and the inconvenience of many elderly people with underlying diseases, the staff packed the steaming Laba porridge and delivered it to the elderly in their homes along with the glutinous rice balls, so that they could feel the love without leaving home. "Drink Laba porridge during the Laba Festival to seek good omens. Drink Laba porridge and hope that the epidemic will pass soon!" Grandpa Xu said with great expectation while drinking porridge.

Jielu Village’s blessings and good wishes for the new year to all villagers are conveyed to the hearts of every villager with the bowls of fragrant Laba porridge.
