1. Having severe uncomfortable feelings when alone
Those with affiliated personalities are usually attached to people they consider essential. This is because they view their world from the perspective of "I am incompetent, so I have to rely on my attachment to others to make them care about me and love me."
As the patient explained, this belief can trigger an intense fear of loneliness in the boyfriend and lead to a clinging and submissiveness that can be suffocating to those around him. When a relationship ends, they may panic and desperately search for a new attachment.
2. Indecision
When working as a couple with an affiliated personality, I can't help but notice that my partner's main complaint is usually "s/he can never decide anything." Indecision questions might include whether to change your car, whether to go on a weekend trip with friends, whether to do yard work, or what kind of dinner you want to have.
3. Surrendering behavior and lack of initiative are the norm.
People with attachment personality usually have a clear tendency to submit to others and lack initiative. This is related to the inability to make decisions because they feel they will make a choice that will anger or disappoint their partner.
They must not upset each other as this may lead to irritability, abandonment, and ultimately loneliness and neglect. The irony, of course, is that like Jenny, the partner is annoyed by the dependent's lack of autonomy, which ultimately means the end of the relationship.
