Tuohu crab and Yangcheng Lake hairy crab are equally famous, and are both one of the top ten famous crabs in my country. Tuohu crab is produced in the provincial nature reserve, the largest pollution-free freshwater lake in northern Anhui --- Tuohu . The lake has vast waters, fresh water quality, abundant aquatic plants and abundant natural bait. Tuohu crabs use freshwater crab fry from the estuary of the Yangtze River. The method of transporting crabs to a large water surface keeps them in a wild state, resulting in large pieces of fat meat, green and bright crab shells, abundant and delicious crab roe, firm and powerful claws, tender and plump meat, and containing a variety of nutrients. It is famous for its characteristics of "green back, white belly, golden claws, brown claws, strong body, delicate meat, plump yellow paste, bright red color after cooking, and fresh and sweet taste".
Crab breeding is a traditional industry of Tuo Lake fishermen. There is a popular local saying, "eat crab rice, live in a crab house, marry a crab wife, marry a crab man." It can be seen that crab production has a long and far-reaching history in Tuo Lake. In the minds of consumers around Wuhe County , "Tuohu crab" has become synonymous with Wuhe County. People's understanding and consumption of Tuohu crabs can be traced back to the Han Dynasty.
In the mid-1980s, Tuohu undertook the National Spark Plan project - "Development of Artificial Breeding Technology of River Crabs". Tuohu's crab production developed rapidly and gradually became Tuohu's leading and characteristic industry. In 2008, the output reached 2.2 million Jin, the output value is about 70 million yuan. Since 2004, Tuohu crabs have won the titles of "China's Top Ten Famous Crabs", "Green Food", "National Geographical Indication Protected Products", "Anhui Famous Brand Agricultural Products", " Bengbu City Famous Agricultural Products", "Bengbu City Tourism" Souvenir Recommended Products" and other titles. The popularity of Tuohu crabs in the domestic market has also been greatly improved. Experts from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan, as well as central, provincial, and municipal leaders have visited Tuohu many times to inspect and understand the crab breeding situation, and have spoken highly of Tuohu crabs.
