In the 40 years since the 1980s and present, China's clinical and school psychology has entered an extremely important historical period. Clinical and school psychologists have shown an increasingly important role and mission in the lives of students and the public, that is, understanding the development of individuals and society, supporting people towards happiness, allowing children to grow up healthily, making families happy, making employees feel comfortable, and making the public happy.

This is significantly different from the past century. Psychology is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of human psychological problems and psychological diseases, but has begun to focus on studying the positive psychological qualities of human beings, pay attention to the survival and development of human beings, and has a new concept, an open attitude, scientific action interpretation and practical psychology.

Group Sand Table Game is a psychological education and psychological counseling activity that uses the physical activity to symbolize and mediate it, and actively explore in a group situation to promote self-awareness, experience interpersonal attitudes, and develop interpersonal adaptation.

has such a popular story that may allow us to better understand the profound significance of psychological education and counseling in the face of children, adolescents and the public. The story is like this:

Three people gathered at a pool to fish, and found someone was washed into the pool from the upstream, struggling to ask for help.

So, a fisherman jumped into the water to rescue the person who fell into the water and rescued him by artificial respiration. At this moment, they saw another person who was washed down. Another fisherman jumped into the water and rescued him... However, they immediately discovered the third, fourth and fifth fallen water persons. These three fishermen were already in a hurry and could not take into account and deal with it.

At this time, a fisherman seemed to have thought of something. He left the scene and went upstream, wanting to do a work of different natures but consistent purpose, wanting to persuade people not to swim here, and wanting to insert a wooden sign in the water to warn people. He did so. However, there are still people who ignore the warning and are washed into the pool, and the three fishermen are still busy saving people from the water.

Later, one of the fishermen seemed to finally wake up. He said that this still cannot fundamentally solve the problem. He wants to do another job - to teach people to swim. This seems to be the key to the problem, because with good water properties, like the three fishermen, they can deal with it independently even if they are washed into deep water or rapids, and they will not be deeply in danger or even give their lives.

This story can give us a lot of inspiration and allow us to better understand the significance of psychological education and tutoring.

If this is used to compare clinical psychology , then the first step is to jump into the water to rescue the person who fell into the water, just like "psychological treatment" , a difficult and meaningful job. Psychological treatment often takes a considerable amount of time and energy, and the "treated person" often feels profound pain and uneasiness.

The second step is that a fisherman goes upstream to persuade people. This is like "psychological counseling and counseling" , which is also a meaningful task. But generally speaking, it only has an effect and influence on the "committer" or the consultant.

So the third step is that the work done by the fisherman who finally woke up and the fisherman who was going to teach people swimming is like "psychological education" . He found the root cause of the person who fell into the water needs to be rescued - the poor water quality, and focused on the root cause of the person who fell into the water's water quality to solve the problem.

Psychological counseling and education are for all people. It is a special education that aims to promote human development, establish people's understanding of themselves, others and groups, and is mainly based on psychology. On the premise of facing everyone, psychological education pays special attention to children, which has its special significance. Just like the fisherman found the upstream of the drowning person falling into the water, psychological education should also start from the "upstream" of people - childhood. As far as psychological theory is concerned, generally, psychological diseases manifested by adults will always bear traces of their childhood experiences and encounters. In children, there is a starting point and hope for psychological education, which shows the true meaning and value of psychological education.

Sand Table Game is a practical application based on Jung's theory, not a special and independent method. In 1997, with the support of the International Society of Sand Table Game Therapy, the sand table game based on Jung Psychology , founded by Dora Kalff , developed in China and began to enter schools and psychological counseling studios at all levels.

After the 1980s, American psychotherapist DeDo menico began to expand the scope of application of sand table games, gradually expanding to adult groups, husband-wife relationships, family relationships and team building. She believes that group members can work together to complete the creation of sand tables, and groups can be composed of individuals with the same characteristics or face the same problems. The group sand table game is jointly performed by group members, using both hands and using water, sand and sand to create three-dimensional works on the sand table. Through the work of the hands, emotions are transformed into shapes, connections or images shaped by sand. The series of images expressed by these emotions ultimately form a story that can be described in words, seen and perceived at the level of consciousness. Thanks to her efforts, the group sand table game was spread. After the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, based on the needs of all psychological assistance workstations in the earthquake zone for our spiritual garden team, based on our professional ethics and professional attitudes, and more on the huge reality and psychological trauma in the earthquake zone, we began a group sand table game with psychological counseling and psychological education as the direction. Subsequently, group sand table work developed in China with unprecedented trends.

All of this comes from our practice and is also the significance of writing this book that is oriented towards reality.

The first chapter of this book introduces the theoretical basis and core concepts of group sand table game tutoring, which is the theoretical background and work basis for us to carry out group sand table games. Chapters 2 and 3 define the operational definition of group sand table game tutoring, the role value of tutoring work, as well as the setting of the group itself, the interpretation of group rules (or no rules), and establish the theme from the individual and group dimensions, and tasks at different stages of group sand table. Chapter 4 analyzes and discusses the application scenarios of group sand table game tutoring. Chapter 5 describes the group sand table game tutoring case.In the single and continuous cases of different groups, the following content is reflected:

The role position of the group coaching leader; how to maintain awareness of yourself and others in the group; how to experience persisting in your own opinion and seeing others in the group; how to maintain the existence of the group and experience the emotions and communication methods in the group; how to assist the group in establishing a connection; what are the attitudes and ethics of the coaching leader? In Chapter 6, we discuss the ethical issues of group sand table game tutoring work, which is the moral boundary of our work.

This is our soul garden team’s first book on group sand table games.
