Morita therapy in psychology is considered to be a psychological treatment method with Eastern philosophical thoughts. In this article, we will explain how the Shumorita therapy with Eastern thoughts can cure social fear from a chapter in a typical Eastern classic "Tao Te Ching".
Chapter 42 of the Tao Te Ching says that Tao gives birth to one, one gives birth to two, two gives birth to three, and three gives birth to all things.
This sentence explains the ultimate question of the universe and the world, that is, what originates from the world, it originates from Tao, and what is Tao? How can the Tao give birth to one, one gives birth to two, and then all things are produced?
The so-called Tao, which is the emptiness in Buddhist thoughts, and the nature that is often mentioned in the Tao Te Ching itself, is actually the same thing. Another part of this sutra also talks about "Tao follows nature". The so-called "law" means rules, that is, Tao is based on nature as the rule.
Regarding what Tao is, another chapter, Chapter 25 mentions, "There are things mixed together, born before heaven and earth, silent and lonely, independent but not change, and walking around without danger, and can be the mother of heaven and earth. I don't know its name, and strong is called Tao. It is called Da". Later, it is said, "Man follows the earth, the earth follows the sky, the sky follows the Tao, and the Tao follows nature."
Tao follows nature. Many of us have heard of this word, and we can also understand what Tao is. In fact, nature is Tao, and what should be done is what; what is like, this is Tao.
seems to be too simple, and it seems to be a bit unreasonable, but it is indeed not complicated. This is the Tao, just do whatever you want, it is such a very plain and thin explanation. If we cannot understand deeply, just like this, it is also a kind of understanding.
Next, let’s look at Chapter 42. After “ Three Generations of All Things ”, all things carry yin and embrace yang, and rush the qi and think it is harmonious. What does this mean?
Everything has the components of yin and yang, and it is inflatable to be harmonious, which means a state formed by the interaction and mutual influence between everything.
The sentence " Tai Chi diagram" " will be a little easier to understand. Tai Chi diagram is a circular shape composed of black and white. The part of black (yin) accounts for half, the part of white (yang) accounts for half, the part of white (yang) accounts for half, the part of black has a white dot, and the part of white has a black dot, and the part with the least black begins to contact the part with the most, on the contrary.
You can see here that there is black in white, white in black, and the largest part of white slowly starts from the smallest part of black, and then, it turns from black to the largest part. Here are the two parts of black and white, yin and yang.
can then be reflected. When it reaches the most black, it turns into white. When it comes to the most white, it still has black. That is, things will turn out to be opposite, and black and white are opposite. This is a kind of idea.
If you analyze it carefully, you can also analyze many principles, such as the mutual transformation of contradictions, white in black, black in white, cannot be extreme, too much is too late, etc., etc., all of which can be reflected in this diagram. This is called the yin and embrace the yang, so things may be damaged and gained, or they may be damaged. This sentence means that all things will either become more from less to extreme, or gradually become less from many.
"I will teach you what people teach. But if a strong person fails to die, I will be the godfather." What does Laozi mean here?
means that people say this, objects can change from small to large, from large to small, people teach this, and I think this is what they say.
"The strong and powerful person cannot die, I will think he is the godfather." The so-called godfather is the foundation of education or the fundamental consciousness. What he thinks is the fundamental is that he thinks that "the strong and powerful person cannot die", and that he cannot die, which seems to mean that he cannot die well.
The so-called "strong beam" refers to strong, powerful, brave, and brave. It generally refers to strong, brave and powerful people. The original meaning is to be strong. "Strong beam" means people who should not be strong and should not be very brave and powerful, rather than making such a gesture, or doing this. Therefore, some people extend this meaning to robbers, or people who show off. Here, this can be understood as "strong people" generally end up not very good. I said that he regards this as the foundation of education, which is a foundation.
Go back to the Tai Chi diagram we just looked at, which is strong and weak, black and white, positive and negative, these are relative. If you emphasize in a certain aspect, if you are a person like "strong and strong", you will not have good results. This is the general meaning.
also mentioned in another chapter that if you want to abolish it, you must promote it. If you want to take it away, you must firmly share it with it. All these show that everything is contradictory and opposing. In the opposite side of contradiction, contradictory and non-opposition, it is mutually transformed, and it is determined by the inherent laws and life cycle of contradiction.
Back to our original topic, social terror, in fact, social terror is also like what is mentioned above.
There are some more extreme cases, that is, as we grow older, some people's social phobia and symptoms will become less and less, and even recover naturally. There are also individual cases.
Some people, as the identity, career, role of the person who fears the social phobia changes, and also change their personal life status, such as the level of the position changes in a certain group, so their social phobia symptoms gradually seem to have corresponding changes.
Morita The founder of Morita Therapy, Mr. Morita has an extreme case. A patient was hospitalized in his hospital for more than 40 days, but it still didn't improve. This patient was very confident in Mr. Morita and wanted to continue to be hospitalized. However, Mr. Morita used another special method. He told the patient that, looking at this, you can't cure it. Don't treat it with me, don't be hospitalized with me, and hospitalization is also futile. You should be discharged from the hospital. However, for so long, we have some feelings, so I would like to advise you to continue working and don't care about anything else!
The patient left sadly. He thought that it would not be cured anywhere else, because at that time, Mr. Morita's hospital was the most famous. He could cure any difficult and complicated cases of social phobia that could not be cured in any other place. However, after Mr. Morita said this to him, he was completely desperate and thought to himself, then I let it go. If I don't treat it, I'll do whatever I like.
He also followed Mr. Morita's advice and started to continue working. After working for two or three days, he miraculously found that his social phobia symptoms had become very weak, which was not as serious as before. He also told Mr. Morita about the news.
Mr. Morita said, don’t worry about it, do what you should do, and in this way, it will be completely cured. The example of
is just as mentioned in the "Tao Te Ching". The transition between good and bad, disease and health is very natural. The more you stick to it, the more you stick to "Are I recovered?", the more you stick to me, I must cure the disease, and the more you want to be cured, the more you stick to these symptoms, the more you trouble you. If you are no longer persistent and give up, it will be better!
This lesson proposes to establish an insight:
means to understand the thoughts of Taoist , understand the Tao follows nature, understand what we mentioned earlier, either to lose it, or to lose it, which is what we mentioned in the title, you may be extremely weak and to the extreme, which is the opposite side of it, and the other side of fear is fearless.
So, does it mean that treatment is not needed? Of course not. Treatment is required, and treatment is necessary, but at the same time, the premise is: take it lightly, don’t force it, don’t be too overly persistent, and don’t be the “strong one” mentioned above.
In fact, you have to realize that social fears may not necessarily hinder you from becoming a valuable person, a normal person or a happy person.
You must understand: emotions, including fear emotions, are natural and have their own internal laws, and this emotion will inevitably change, and you will not always be in fear.
mentioned theories and insights earlier. What are the behaviors we want to do? We mentioned earlier that we should accept the status quo, including the symptom of fear.
In addition to accepting, we also have to face fear and learn to face fear. When you feel uneasy and nervous, when you feel that you are about to have fear, face it, observe, and experience fear. What am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?
What is important is: while observing, do what you should do. When observing this way, can you see if you can experience what fear is, and can you still experience it? Do you still have fear when you experience it? This is a question, can you try it out? .
Leave you an assignment:
means reading the "Tao Te Ching" or reading several chapters. When reading it, it is best to find some annotations, including the views of predecessors, preferably senior monks and masters, and some recognized and accomplished people’s annotations on the "Tao Te Ching", and understand the content of the "Tao Te Ching" through these annotations. This will definitely help us in treating social terrorism, at least in terms of insight.
Summary of this lesson
1. Insights: Understand the thoughts of the "Tao Te Ching", understand what Tao follows nature, understand or damage it, or harm it. To the extreme, one is strong; the other side of fear may be fearless.
- Behavior: When facing fear, take the initiative to observe and experience fear, and at the same time insist on doing what you should do. Please note that panic disorder patients may not be suitable for panic attacks when they may have panic attacks (you need to understand the coping methods during panic attacks, such as paper bag breathing methods, etc.). You must take the initiative to observe boldly at any time based on multiple exercises.
- homework: Read the "Tao Te Ching" or read several chapters, it is best to read some annotations from the ancients at the same time.
