★ Social psychologists believe that the nature of the social situation in which behavior is the primary determinant of behavior. They believe that social situations control individual behavior to a great extent and often dominate personality and a person’s past learning history, values and beliefs.
★Social role refers to a series of socially defined behavior patterns that an individual expects to make when he moves in a given environment or group. The characteristics of the situation can also be reflected in the application of behavioral guidelines and rules in specific situations. Some rules are expressed in symbols in explicit ways. Some rules are implicit - people learn these rules by interacting with others in specific situations.
★Social norms are in addition to expectations of role behavior, groups also formulate many expectations of how group members should act. Publicly stated or implicit group rules contain specific expectations that tell group members what attitudes and behaviors are appropriate from a social perspective.
