Many people probably don’t know the name of the Golden Sutra . Folks believe that the Golden Sutra is the incarnation of Vimalakīrti. If I tell you about the Vimalakīrti Sutra , I believe everyone will be familiar with it. Speaking of the three words " Vimalakirti ", I wonder who everyone will think of? The first thing that came to my mind was Wang Wei, also known as Poetic Buddha, also known as Mojie. Northern Song Dynasty Su Shi commented: "When you write poems about Mojie, there are paintings in the poems; when you look at the paintings of Mojie, there are poems in the paintings."
Our great poet Wang Wei was conceived by his mother because his mother practiced Buddhism. A mojie character. I believe that the mother of our great poet also named her son such a name with reference to this "Vimalakīrti Sutra". In the years that followed, Wang Wei's life experience was also full of ups and downs. When he was proud, he was the number one scholar in high school. When he was frustrated, his mother died young and his wife died of illness. Then he suffered from the Anshi Rebellion, and his family and country were shattered. In the end, Wang Wei spent the rest of his life in practicing Zen and understanding philosophy. .
Vimalakīrti was a lay practitioner who practiced at home. In fact, Wang Wei later was also equivalent to him. After Zhang Jiuling was demoted from the position of prime minister, Wang Wei basically spent his time in Wangchuan, except for normal court visits. He spent the rest of his life in the villa, and the Vimalakirti we are talking about today was also a layman who practiced at home. With his outstanding wisdom and eloquence, he assisted Sakyamuni Buddha in saving all sentient beings.
Vimalakirti layman is proficient in Buddhism and has extremely high cultivation level.
Because Vimalakirti became the earliest example of a Buddhist family, Vimalakirti can be called "the first layman in the Buddha's era."
