"Men wears Guanyin, women wears Buddha" is a folk way of praying for blessings.
The saying of man wearing Guanyin is because people believe that men have a more strong and irritable personality, while the Guanyin Bodhisattva in Chinese Buddhism is both female appearances, symbolizing compassion and gentleness. I hope that through wearing Guanyin Bodhisattva, I can make myself less strong and irritable, more compassion and gentleness.
The saying of women wearing Buddha is because people believe that women are jealous and have a small mind. They hope to expand their minds by wearing Maitreya Buddha , so that they can welcome others with a smile like Maitreya Buddha, and be tolerant.
In fact, it is not recommended to wear Buddha statue pendants on the body in the true Buddhism, and there is no saying "Men wear Guanyin and women wear Buddha".
Guanyin is a Dharma body Bodhisattva, who appears in various male and female bodies to save sentient beings.
" Shurangama Sutra " records that in order to adapt to sentient beings of different natures and categories, Guanyin Bodhisattva can transform into thirty-two different identities, including male bodies and female bodies.
In other words, in the human world, Guanyin either turns into emperors, prime ministers or officials, or turns into secluded gentlemen, ordinary people, or turns into women, or beggars, there is no certainty.
Because the appearance of the Bodhisattva is subtle and solemn, people in the world cannot describe it, so most of them are similar to the appearance of a woman. It is not that the Bodhisattva was originally a woman's body, as the sutra says, it turns into a person with the hearts of sentient beings.
The size of the mind has nothing to do with Dai Maitreya, but is self-forging.
Maitreya shows people the image of a kind face and a big belly that can accommodate.
Anyone who has been to the temple will feel happy when he sees Maitreya's happy image.
The reason why Buddhist temples place Maitreya in the first floor of the temple has its special meaning.
Because in Buddhism, Maitreya has symbolic meanings such as compassion, forbearance, tolerance and optimism. Maitreya Bodhisattva is placed in the temple as soon as you enter the temple, so that those who attend Maitreya can be enlightened from these qualities in them, and thus forge themselves into people with Maitreya character.
Maitreya has many poems that encourage people to learn to be tolerant.
He said in his poem: "I have a cloth bag, the void is free of worries; it spreads all directions, and enters the time to Avalokitesvara."
The poem uses the Maitreya bag to accommodate all things as a metaphor, which tells us to have a tolerant heart towards people, because many times, tolerant towards others means giving convenience to ourselves.
