Since 2021, Huawei and Dronetech have begun to cooperate in 5G and drone technology. Dronetech's drones are equipped with high-definition cameras and sensors to capture the situation of other items on farmland or ground. The processing of related images and data requires the cooperation of 5G network .
Both parties announced that cooperation on relevant solutions has entered the second phase. In addition to 5G, Huawei will also provide cloud and other technologies to lay a technical foundation for instant artificial intelligence (AI) analysis. The upgraded solution can perform instant AI analysis of images and data captured by drones, providing an effective basis for users to formulate reasonable work plans.
In agriculture, this technology can help farmers discover pests, understand crop growth, predict harvests, etc., help farmers minimize the use of water, pesticides or chemicals, and promote green and sustainable development of agriculture.
Phase II project "Digital Sky" also plans to develop drone services into a sharing economy model. In the future, enterprises, municipalities or individual users can rent drones and carry out intelligent scenario analysis in many fields such as agriculture, photovoltaics, transportation, and electricity.

Austrian Deputy Minister of Finance Andreas Reichhardt said that Huawei and Dronetech first used drones to asparagus and grape cultivation in Austria, analyzing crop growth through real-time image recognition, thereby improving crop yield and quality. "Austria hopes to seize the opportunity of to transform into digitally. For this reason, we need to equip excellent infrastructure, the focus is 5G."
In the agricultural field, the biggest challenge facing 5G drones is network coverage. Currently, 5G networks are mainly designed for end users on the ground or indoor, but drones usually fly at 50 meters or even higher. Therefore, high-quality coverage for drones remains to be developed.
Huawei Austria Deputy CEO Erich Manzer said: "The three key application features of 5G technology are high bandwidth, low latency, and easy connection of millions of terminal devices. Combining drones with 5G and AI technologies can solve many resource-intensive operational problems."
