Hypersexual caused by antidepressants
also known as "Hypersexual secretion (ADIES) caused by sympathetic nerves", is a disease caused by excessive secretion of sweat glands, and is characterized by excessive sweating in the body.
Compared with side effects such as nausea, drowsiness, weight gain, and sexual dysfunction, the existence of excessive sweating is often ignored. After all, "excessive sweating does not seem to be a big problem."
However, this side effect is not uncommon in clinical practice. Some studies have pointed out that the overall incidence of ADIES is 5%-14%, which is one of the common reasons for patients' discontinuation of medication and reduced compliance with medication, because severe hyperhidrosis not only causes social embarrassment, affects normal life, but also often aggravates patients' anxiety symptoms.
In addition, unlike side effects such as nausea and sleepiness, excessive sweating may last for a long time and it is difficult to relieve it on its own during subsequent treatment.
Follow the pharmacist to learn more about the "lack of presence" ADIES. The mechanism of occurrence of
ADIES The mechanism of occurrence of
ADIES has not been clarified, but researchers generally believe that it is related to the various neurotransmitters affected by antidepressants when they take effect, and these neurotransmitters are also involved in the body's body temperature regulation link. The occurrence of
ADIES may be related to the type and dosage of antidepressants. There are differences in the affinity between different antidepressants of and the multiple neurotransmitter receptors , so there are differences in the risk of hyperhidrosis caused by antidepressants.
It is reported that sertraline and paroxetine have a higher risk of occurrence, while fluvoxamine almost does not cause excessive sweating. Some cases of show that the occurrence of ADIES is dose-dependent, and the symptoms of hyperhidrosis can be improved or disappeared after reducing its dose or stopping the medication.
ADIES treatment
can consider reducing the dose of antidepressants or discontinuing the medication, or changing another antidepressant with a lower risk of occurrence, and adding other drugs if necessary (including terazosin , clonidine, benzatropine, cyheptanedi , aripiprazole , etc.). The occurrence of
ADIES is not uncommon, but many patients do not actively report the side effect of excessive sweating to their doctors, which may be because the patient is embarrassed or the patient does not establish a link between increased sweating and antidepressant treatment. Therefore, pharmacists are popularizing ADIES here, in order to remind patients who are taking antidepressants that if experiences excessive sweating or increased sweating, they should be aware that it may be related to antidepressants, and actively seek help from doctors or pharmacists. Do not terminate treatment on their own.
