Neil Miller , born on August 3, 1909 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Miller received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Washington in 1931. During , the University of Washington, , he followed the famous learning theorist Edwin Guthrie for research. In 1932, he obtained his master's degree from Stanford University and received his doctorate from 
935 at Yale University . During Yale , he followed another famous learning theorist Clark Hull for research. Hull had an important influence on Miller's personality theory. Miller and Dorad proposed the personality theory, they believed that personality is acquired, and the four parts that make up learning are internal driving force, clue, reaction, and reward .
