Let’s talk about Baoji’s red culture today. 73 years ago, from July 10 to 14, 1949, the famous "Fumei Battle" took place in Baoji, whose full name is "Fufeng-Meixian Battle". This was a strategic decisive battle between the First Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Kuomintang on the northwest battlefield during the War of Liberation, following the three major battles.
The decisive battle was conducted by Peng Dehuai The Chinese People's Liberation Army First Field Army fought a decisive battle with the 170,000 Kuomintang troops who retreated from Xi'an. This battle completely liberated Guanzhong .
A field soldier launched an attack in three directions. Wang Zhen led the First Corps, marching westward along Hu County and Huxi (i.e., Zhou to ). After defeating the enemy's 90th Army at Ziwukou, Heishan Temple, Yabai, and Hengqu, he captured Baoji Yimen on the 14th. Town; Xu Guangda led the Second Corps to conquer Linping, marched 75 kilometers overnight through Tiandu, Famen, Qinghua, and Yidian, and inserted into Luoju Town behind the enemy's rear, and captured Yi County (ie Mei County ) station, repelled the enemy's breakouts more than ten times in a row. After more than ten hours of fierce fighting, Fufeng was captured. Compress the first part of the enemy's 65th Army and most of the 38th Army and the 119th Army to the Weihe Beach south of Wujing and north of Mei County to Hulukou, and encircle and annihilate the 1st Corps; the 18th Corps of the People's Liberation Army, which is responsible for the main offensive task on the front of the battle, , under the command of Zhou Shidi , they advanced westward via the Xifeng Highway and Longhai Railway , and first annihilated the enemy's rear on both sides of the Qishui River and on the north and south lines of Wugong. One of them inserted into Xinglin and Jiangzhang, defeating the enemy 247 Division, annihilated the main force of the 187th Division, regained its martial arts, and continued to march to the southeast of Luoju Town to join forces with the Second Corps to jointly annihilate the remaining enemies; Yang Dezhi led the 19th Corps of the People's Liberation Army to intercept Ma Hongkui at Qian County and Liquan (i.e. Liquan). ensures the victory of the Fumei Battle.
The Battle of Fumei wiped out more than 43,000 people from 4 armies, 6 divisions and 6 other regiments of the Kuomintang in one fell swoop, and once again liberated Baoji and nine counties. The "Battle of Fumei" laid the foundation for the liberation of the northwest and southwest. In the Battle of Fumei, more than 3,000 PLA officers and soldiers died heroically, and the casualties totaled more than 4,700. After Mao Zedong learned the news of the victory in the Battle of Fumei, he telegraphed to Peng Dehuai: "The victory in the fight against the Hu is great, I am very relieved!"
In order to forever commemorate the revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Fumei and remember their great achievements, this building was built in 1953 Fumei Battle Memorial Hall , covering an area of 47 acres, is located at No. 70, Huanzhen North Road, Changxing Town, Mei County, Baoji. I would like to dedicate this to the 101st anniversary of the founding of the party, let us remember those past martyrs!
