Prince William has joined the King Charles Crown Committee.
New Prince of Wales Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Prince Philip , Prince Philip played a leading role in the planning of the 1953 Queen Elizabeth ceremony, modernizing it and making it the first television coronation of the British monarch.
"The main figure who had real influence in 1953 was the Duke of Edinburgh, and I wonder if we will see a similar role this time when the new Prince William of Wales plays," author Catherine Pepinster told reporters in London.
"I doubt we'll see Prince William here showing his muscle , and he'll be the one who drives the coronation fairly modernization.
" But the Queen's funeral shows that people's reaction to the 'traditional' event does have a hint of modernity, rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water. "
Pepinster said the royal family had a mix of old and new before Her Majesty said goodbye in September, noting that the first two times worked well.
"Wellness is not smooth in this case, but the funeral of 1997 Welsh Princess Diana Funeral combined tradition and innovation [and] Prince Charles, then Prince Charles, was also very innovatively blending ancient and modern," she said.
The religious expert and historian said King Charles 6, 2023 The big day of the day has been planned for many years, "through the so-called Golden Globe Operation".
She expects that the event will not change dramatically for the remaining six months.
“I talked to former Archbishop Rowan Williams of Canterbury, who participated in the discussion of the monarchy, who left the post about a decade ago,” she said.
“However, if you asked someone at Clarence Palace and then represent the Prince of Wales, they hint that this certainly wouldn’t happen because considering the crowning of the next monarch was quite vulgar, someone was still alive and still kicking. [But] This has obviously been thought about for a long time.
"I think they have a lot of things to take out and dust off in the file cabinet. I think it's just a question of tricks - that's why I think there are a lot of things that won't change now because they're leaving it late."
Pepinster said that Charles 's coronation ceremony would be more about "pinching and folding", but for William there could be "significant big changes".
One of the major changes that will take effect in May next year will be the length of the ceremony.
Although there are reports that the king wants it to be done within an hour, religious experts believe that this is impossible in terms of oath, oiling the king and the service of the Bodhis.
"There is another important thing we should remember that will happen this time, which has not happened in 53 years, and that is the anointing and crowning of the queen," Pepinster noted.
She expects the royal family’s coronation ceremony to be close to 90 minutes, which is still half the time of Queen Elizabeth’s ceremony, much shorter than the 5-hour activity time of King George VI .
It is also expected that King Charles will have other denominations and faith leaders involved, as happened during church services across the UK after Queen Elizabeth's death.
She said: "The new king is clearly considering this, as he showed in the Buckingham Palace reception for faith leaders shortly after becoming the king."
Especially considering that King Charles appointed his first prime minister this week - the first Hindu , British Asian Prime Minister Rich Sunak - and hopes to reflect a modern multi-ethnic, multi-cultural UK in his service.
She said: "My prediction is that Church of England cannot give up its role in the coronation, but it will willingly involve other denominations and involve representatives of other beliefs."
One thing that won't be different is the public's insatiable appetite for the event-in fact, Pepinster said it may have seen more than before.
"[It] will be huge because it is the only European country that still crowns the new monarch, and the only comparable ritual in the first world countries is in Japan," she said.
"And thanks to Netflix's " Crown ", people's interest in the British monarchy has certainly increased in recent years. Therefore, the coronation ceremony will satisfy the appetite of celebrities caused by "Crown ". "
