October 25, 2022 (Tuesday) 7:00-9:00 pm 4:00 pm 4:00 pm 4:00 pm 4:00 pm 4:00 pm 4:3Qian Mu once used "Hyper Biography of the Monk " as an example to briefly explain his understanding of "Sinicization of Buddhism", that is, "adding historical significance into it, at least its own religious concept will become much more enlightened and will become a new concept, which is like opening up a new world in religion" (" Chinese Historical Classics "). This reminds that when dealing with Buddhist historical documents, people cannot just regard it as an auxiliary material for "orthodox" historical literature to investigate and make up for shortcomings, but should also analyze the writing characteristics in it.
Reviewing the research on Buddhist history and biography in the international academic community in the past century, we can find such a development trend, namely: "from document to text" (restores the original reality of the document, focusing on the processive investigation of the generation of Buddhist historical texts), "from material to background" (from the past to restore the classical literature itself, and converts it into perspective on the ideological, political and cultural situation behind the documents through various historical sources).
In the new era and academic development context, thinking about the approach to research on Chinese Buddhist history is of no neglect. In this academic conversation, nine young scholars who are currently active in the field of Chinese Buddhist history research will talk about their ideas about the research of Buddhist history based on their latest research. Involve it and go beyond it. This dual observation of "inside" and "outside" is hoped to build consensus and create unique effects.

[Content Introduction]
Huijiao's "Biography of the Empressive Monk" is the earliest existing work of monks in . It is not only a treasure house of medieval thought history, but also created the history of Buddhist history and a model written for monks in all dynasties.
Mr. Qian Mu once said: "Biography of the Empressed Monk" "includes the humanistic and historical views in Chinese cultural traditions into religion." book draws on this perspective and focuses on the writing of "Biography of the Emerging Monks", and explores the systematic characteristics of the writing of ancient monks from the aspects of material origin, style and spiritual dimension, such as what is the relationship between the scriptures and the monks' biography? What is the reason for the formation of the "biography + theory + praise" style combination model? How do the three dimensions of history, religion and literature structure the writing of the deeds of eminent monks? How do tension-rich factors such as the foreign land and Middle-earth, monk system and royal power, academic and political, trends of the times and individual destiny shape the face of the monk text?
This book strives to to reveal the various tension phenomena in the writing of ancient monks and their relationship with the exemplary status of the "Biography of Emerging Monks", and then interpret and think about the proposition of "Sinicization of Buddhism" from a new perspective.

Zhang Bowei
Professor of the School of Literature of Nanjing University
On the basis of a comprehensive grasp of the literature, the author used an in-depth analysis of the issues that predecessors had not been consistent or not paid attention to in the "Biography of the Emerging Monks" in a way that was not consistent or not paid attention to in the "Biography of the Emerging Monks", so its conclusions are not only eye-catching for new people, but also inspiring people to think deeply.
Chen Jinhua
Professor of Columbia University in Canada
The author can break the differences between disciplines and sects in the traditional sense, and break the private opinions of various sects of Buddhism, Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and even religion, philosophy, literature, history, etc. Therefore, we can often go in and out of the internal and external scriptures to explain the historical and meaningful issues of Buddhism. This open attitude also gives his research a material thickness and a discipline depth.
