When Monk Decong was seven years old, he became a novice monk at Ciguang Temple in Hangzhou. When he was thirteen years old, he received full ordination at Brahma Temple and officially became a monk.

After that, he visited famous mountains, paid homage to eminent monks, exchanged Buddhist teachings, and confirmed his experiences. He finally became enlightened and achieved great success in Buddhism. He was known as Zen Master Decong.

The monk deliberately asked Zen Master Decong: "Master, do you usually read these scriptures?" Zen Master Decong replied: "I already know the purpose of these scriptures, why bother to read them again?"
