During the Tang Dynasty, a swordsman asked the eminent monk Xuanzang : "Whether people go to heaven or go to hell after death". Xuanzang did not answer directly, but pointed to his knife and said, Your knife is very heavy, but it is not sharp and cannot kill people. The knife man was furious, drew out the knife and slashed at Xuanzang. When he was a foot away from Xuanzang's body, he spun the blade and slapped Xuanzang with the back of the knife.

Xuanzang just said: "Just now when you drew your sword and slashed at me, the gate of hell opened to you. When you were about to hack me, you turned the blade, no Kill me, at this time the gates of heaven are already open like you." Heaven and hell are only in you. There is a saying in : "Put down the butcher knife and become a Buddha on the spot". It means that letting go of killing thoughts, delusions, and attachments is a Buddha! From the moment you let go of killing and not hurting people's lives indiscriminately, you have been accepted by heaven.
