Hello everyone! We all know that Bodhidharma Patriarch After traveling to China, he meditated on the back mountain of Shaolin Temple for nine years. Why did he stay in the cave and sit quietly, and why was he asking for something inward? Let’s talk together.
After the journey to the east, Master Bodhidharma visited many temples. He wanted to investigate first because he brought the core technology - the method of meditation. I don’t know what stage of Buddhism has developed in Middle-earth and whether the conditions are ripe? It can make Zen take root and sprout.
The first stop he came to Donglin Temple , which is also the will of Liang Wudi . The monks of all major temples must come here to welcome Bodhidharma .
However, everyone was treated coldly by Bodhidharma. Why? Because Bodhidharma discovered a big problem, the people in this land were practicing, and Buddhism became distorted. What does it mean specifically?
They only pay attention to formalism and superficial skills. For example, the more grand the Dharma Assembly is, the better, the more ritual the better; the more classics you read, the better; whoever can speak the wiser will have a higher level of practice.
Everyone cares about the specific forms, such as reading the scriptures and meditating, but not paying attention to the self-nature. Wisdom cannot arise from the inside. In this way, seeking outward has gone astray and lost the true meaning of Buddhism. Because the way is simple, everyone should find a way of practicing that suits them and should not follow the example.
Facing this reality, Bodhidharma was quite helpless. Not only is this land unable to practice Zen, but the foundation of Buddhism is distorted. Zen is a higher state of refinement based on Buddhism. The quality of the soil is the primary condition for whether the crops grow well.
Bodhidharma goes north, inspects along the road, and visits the temple. But the world is as dark as crows, and there is nothing strange about it. The monarch of the dynasty, Emperor Wu of Liang, practices with merits. Who knows how many naval troops were involved in it? Bodhidharma is getting more and more disappointed and is in a low mood...
Why are he feeling depressed? Because the purpose of his trip was to carry forward the Zen method, which was agreed upon by him and his master Prajna Tara . At that time, the form of India (Tianzhu) had undergone great changes and there was no room for Buddhism to survive, so he came to China with the sect Dharma.
The current situation is not optimistic. He may be insulting his mission and will disappoint his master's high expectations.
so, Bodhidharma had to cross the river to the north, walk and look, and finally stopped in the back mountain of Shaolin Temple. He chose to meditate in a cave under Wuqi Peak, and never saw anyone again or said anything. There is no meaning outside anymore. He is determined to seek inwardly, hoping to understand methods to solve the current dilemma.
The future is unknown, and the same is true for Master Bodhidharma. He sat for nine years, and he didn't know that he would sit for so long. Perhaps everything is destined. Nine years later, God sent his successor, Shen Guang ( Huike ).
Divine Light successfully became a disciple with the attitude of Listening and Broken Arm, and learned Zen Buddhism from Bodhidharma. Thus the bloodline of Zen Buddhism can continue. Until it was passed down to , the Sixth Patriarch, and Huineng, the Zen method began to spread all over the world and blossomed everywhere, becoming an important part of traditional culture.
The key question is here. I know many friends will ask: "Didn't Bodhidharma realize the truth? Why do you still encounter difficulties?" This question is actually very interesting, and some things can be said. So what is the situation for those who have realized the truth?
Some people probably think that a person should have superpowers after enlightenment. What is superpower? For example, predicting the future, collecting objects from a distance, flying changes, etc., these incredible magical skills. To put it bluntly, his life is like a cheat, and he can do everything.
This is actually a big misunderstanding, and this is not the case in reality. The Su Shu says: "Sages are just ordinary people." It means that sages are just ordinary people and have no special abilities. Qianliyan and Shunfenger do not exist and are useless. Look at the divine power of the Maudgalyayana, and is also served by stones.
Do you still remember it in Journey to the West? Wukong finds Bodhi Patriarch to learn skills. After that, I made some achievements and began to show off my 72 changes in front of my brothers, having a lot of fun. After the incident was discovered by the Bodhi Patriarch, Wukong was directly expelled from the master. Why? Because obsessed with supernatural powers is a symbol of being possessed by demons, not a serious person.
Then someone will ask, since after enlightenment is the same as ordinary people, what's the use? Isn't it in vain? But it is really useful. Although a person who has realized the truth is not omniscient and omnipotent, he can solve the problem when needed and take care of everything just right. This is called self-fulfilment.
Wang Yangming There is a saying: "If things come, they will be reflected. Don't be afraid that they cannot be reflected. Just be afraid that your mirror will be unclear." If the mirror is clear, a conscience will give rise to a method, respond to it step by step. It will not accumulate a lot of inspiration in the mind, it does not need it, it is a waste of resources.
People who have realized the truth are not just hanging around in life. If nothing is challenging at all, is there any point? Just like when you play computer games, you can turn on the invincible mode directly, and you will find it boring, this is not a real lifestyle.
Your body must be limited in the three-dimensional world, but high dimensions can give you inspiration so that you can reap the pleasure of playing games. You can compare this world to a self-service game venue, which depends entirely on how you understand it.
The body of the enlightened person is the same as that of the Bodhi person. For example, Nagarjuna Bodhisattva , he will still get sick; for example, Wang Yangming, Dragon Field , he was not healthier after enlightenment, and his old illness was still there, and he lived to be 57 years old.
A person realizes the truth, and he may not be able to change reality. If a person's mentality changes and he can be unattached, then there is nothing much to do with reality, because happiness and happiness are just a feeling.
What does it mean in ancient books that say "I am the only way to die in life"? There is no difference between a child who died prematurely and a 150-year-old Peng Zu . They are the same. It sounds like a destructive view, right? Even the child who died prematurely lived even higher than Peng Zu. Why do you say that? Because this person has no attachment to life span.
So although Bodhidharma is a person who has enlightened the truth, he will still encounter difficulties, so he can meditate for nine years and seek inwardly, and finally find a solution. This is the true self-fulfilment.
If a person can do everything after enlightenment, it will be meaningless, because it is too boring and you cannot experience the excitement and joy after breaking through the challenge.
Thank you for watching! See you next time~Thank you~
