It is reported that the assembly work of Apple MacBook has been undertaken by Taiwan's two major electronics OEMs, namely Quanta Computer and Hon Hai Precision Industry . Compal Computer Industries and Wistron, which are both Taiwanese companies and have been OEMs for HP and Dell for many years, are also unable to get Apple MacBook orders. The report quoted a recruiter at the Wingtech Technology Factory in Kunming, Yunnan, as saying that "the number of employees in the second phase of the factory has increased from 15,000 to 20,000."
Digitimes report shows that Apple is expected to expand MacBook production to multiple locations in mainland China. Among them, Quanta will transfer about 60% of the MacBook Pro production capacity from Shanghai to Chongqing, and the other 40% of the MacBook Pro production capacity will be produced by Foxconn's factory in Chengdu. The production capacity of MacBook Air will gradually be transferred to Wingtech Technology's factory in Kunming. Another report by
quoted sources as saying that Apple ultimately plans to let Quanta manufacture 55% of the MacBook, while Foxconn is responsible for 35% and Wingtech Technology is responsible for 10%. The semi-annual report disclosed by Wingtech Technology shows that in the first half of 2022, Wingtech Technology achieved revenue of 24.769 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%, and net profit attributable to the parent company of 1.232 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 27.56%.
