has entered the 5G era and the application of IoT technology is more widely seen. The second generation of small, smart Internet of Things reading device developed by Hong Kong startup Synap Technologies was once favored by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Environmental Protection Department and was introduced into the landfill to pilot various data collection projects.

Synap Guan Binghui, founder of Technologies, said that the inspiration for the research and development of the reading device began when many power companies still use employee hand-reading meters to record the usage for customers. "The landfill area is large like that of golf course , and there are wellheads. It is necessary to monitor the acid and alkalinity of the water quality to understand the changes in biogas in the well. In the past, it was necessary to manually measure data or extract samples for each well, but some wells are located on the mountain and on the slope, which poses risks."
Guan Binghui said that with the development of high-end technology of intelligent Internet of Things, the reading induction device is transmitted through low-frequency data, combined with the private network platform on the cloud, even if there are hills or trees in the monitoring location, as long as the reading device is installed in different corners, the devices can be connected to each other and transmit data to the cloud controller. The reading device developed by
Synap Technologies does not need to be connected to any wires. After turning on the power supply and connecting to the private network platform, the reading can be transferred to the cloud server.
He mentioned that the company specially tailored a one-stop solution for the Internet of Things for the power company, and finally broke out in the market. The second-generation reading device launched by the company is only one-fifth of the size of the first generation, but the data reception and transmission distance has been increased to 10 kilometers. Automatically and regularly collect readings can be set to cooperate with the development of smart cities.
Synap Technologies As one of the cultivation companies of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park technology entrepreneurship cultivation program, it can be said to be the best example of Hong Kong innovation and technology startups gathering talents, relying on mainland production lines, and cooperating with an international perspective.
Guan Binghui, who majored in computer science at the university, moved to Canada in his early years and returned to Hong Kong in 1994. He worked at International Investment Bank Goldman Sachs for six years, and later gave up his high salary and focused on developing network security systems.
In 2016, he met Cui Yikang from Hong Kong and Dr. Andreas Gaarder from Sweden . The three of them coincided with the concept of the development of smart grid communication technology. After learning that the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park could provide a three-year science and technology entrepreneurship cultivation program, the three applied for participation and were finally shortlisted and received office rent-free and other marketing funding.
Guan Binghui described that the three of them had their own division of labor. For example, Dr. Gaarder focused on industrial design, Cui Yikang was responsible for marketing promotion and sales, and he and the Hong Kong R&D team were mainly engaged in technological development and improvement and software design. In order to promote its IoT technology, the company actively participates in large-scale exhibitions to face the international community.
Guan Binghui said that the electronics exhibition of Hong Kong Trade Development Council provides the industry with a platform for communication, helping them get to know induction device manufacturers from mainland China, which is conducive to developing business opportunities in the future.
Regarding the future development blueprint, Guan Binghui said that he will strive for application contracts with government departments on the Internet of Things in the future. He also intends to promote a new generation of reading devices and mini gateway sets through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, aiming to open up the civilian market, attract the attention and trial of technicians, and create market voice.
Synap Technologies participated in the Hong Kong Autumn Electronics Exhibition and met buyers from India, Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
This year, the Hong Kong Autumn Electronics Exhibition will be included in The five major Autumn Science and Technology Exhibitions will be held next week to create cross-industry business opportunities. On the first day of the exhibition, Innovation Technology Forum will also be held, , and industry professionals, unicorn enterprise representatives, and university professors will be invited to discuss "sustainable development and the future of science and technology innovation".
