Zhu Yongxin’s note: Teachers should learn some psychology. This is because teachers with common sense in psychology can enter students' hearts more smoothly. Only by truly entering the hearts of students can education achieve good results, teachers can truly enter the free kingdom of education, and enjoy the happiness of education. I studied psychology in my early days and published many papers in authoritative psychology journals at home and abroad. I have also written "Spyware of the Psychological World", "Counseling Psychology", "Political Psychology", and "The Trajectory of the Mind". At present, the "Management Psychology" I presided over is still a unified textbook selected by many schools across the country. After the epidemic in 2020, my students and I wrote "What is education under the epidemic from the perspective of education and psychology? 》, and then I wrote this book "Psychology that Teachers Must Understand", which was officially published by East China Normal University Press . Thank you Professor He Yuan and all the authors for their hard work, and thank you President Li Yongmei, the head of the Daxia Book Department, for your support and help from Yang Kun.

In 2018, the editor-in-chief of the Daxia Book Department "Teacher Monthly" Lin Chaju once asked me this question:
I remember that in 1981, you were still studying at Shanghai Normal University , you participated in the compilation of " China Encyclopedia " (Psychology Volume), and was once considered "Mr. Zhu". In psychology, you have done a lot of basic work and written a lot, especially promoting the "implementation" and development of psychological counseling theory and practical methods in China. Decades have passed. If you are asked to write (compose) a popular psychology book for teachers in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens. From the existing psychological research and practice achievements of mankind, what psychological ideas, theories, methods and tools will you extract?
In reply:
Indeed, I turned from psychology to education. In the early 1980s, the class we studied at Shanghai Normal University was called "Teaching Heart Class". As the name suggests, it was the major of education and psychology. At that time, we realized very clearly that education is the science of human beings, and we must have a comprehensive understanding of human beings in order to truly learn education and do a good job in education. Education is the art of the soul, human psychology is an extremely complex existence, and the science of human psychology is an extremely complex science, which requires the support of philosophy, physiology, psychology, and social disciplines. Our teachers include professors in education, such as Chen Kemei, Chen Guisheng , etc., as well as professors in psychology, such as Li Boshu , Yan Guocai, etc. In addition, there are courses in physiology, philosophy, and statistics.
At that time, the one I tried the most was psychology. The reason why I put in the most effort is, on the one hand, because I have a clearer understanding through learning educational theory that the object of education is people, and understanding people should start with psychology, which is the most practical basic subject in education work; on the other hand, it is because I was influenced by Professor Yan Guocai, I began to systematically study the history of Chinese psychology during my university period.
To study the history of psychology in China , we must fully understand the history of the development of Western psychology, understand the schools and systems of psychology, and understand the main branches of psychology. At that time, while studying, I took a lot of notes and wrote a popular science book "Spying the Psychological World". This is my first book. Although the history of Chinese psychology was the main focus, a lot of research was also done in the fields of educational psychology, management psychology, consulting psychology, etc. So far, the national key textbook "Management Psychology" published by Higher Education Press is still the textbook edited by me.
Since the early 1990s, with the positions of director of the Academic Affairs Office of Suzhou University and deputy mayor of the Suzhou Municipal Government, especially after I launched the new education experiment at the beginning of this century, I have shifted my research focus to pedagogy, which has a more direct and closer relationship with my work. From teaching management research in higher education to regional education development research, to theoretical research on new education experiments, I have gradually moved away from the psychology community. However, I have been following the latest progress in psychology .
If I were asked to write a popular psychology book for teachers in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens, what psychological ideas, theories, methods and tools should be introduced to everyone, this is indeed a challenging question.
It is very difficult to use the space of a book to fully explain psychology to teachers. In the "Basic Reading Books for Chinese Primary and Secondary School Teachers" I presided over, at least fifteen classic psychological works are included: "Teaching Courage: Walking on the Teacher's Mind" (Parker Palmer), "Positive Psychology: Exploring the Science and Practice of Human Advantage" (Snyder, Shane Lopez), " Child Psychology " ( Piaget , Inherde), "Thinking and Language" (Lev Vygotsky), "Child Personality Education" ( Alfred Adler ), "My Moral Development Psychology: The Essence and Confirmation of the Moral Stage" ( Kolberg ), "Child Development" (Baker), " Motivation and Personality ( Abraham Maslow ), Identity: Youth and Crisis (Eric Erickson), Art of Love (Eric Fromm), Essence of Educational Psychology: The Main Ideas for Guiding Effective Teaching (Janey Alice Omrod), New Vision of Multiple Intelligence ( Howard Gardner ), Pygmalion in the Classroom - Teacher Expectations and Student Intellectual Development ( Rosenthal , Jacobson), How Man Learns: Brain, Psychology, Experience and School (John Branthford, etc.), Punishment of Rewards (Elfie Iron).
This bibliography has been repeatedly selected from thousands of psychological works, including major works and major fields related to teacher life. Moreover, these classic books in psychology were proposed when the teacher had received a systematic teacher education and had studied major courses such as the history of psychology, general psychology, educational psychology, children's psychology, physiological psychology , psychological measurement and statistics. If you want to truly understand the relevant situation of psychology, it is recommended that the teacher read the above works carefully in one to three years.

Of course, it does not mean it is impossible. The key to writing a basic psychology reading for teachers is to pay attention to the actual needs of teachers.
So, if I were to edit a psychology work for primary and secondary schools and kindergarten teachers, there would be the following main contents.
First, it is about the historical development of psychology. Any science is a historical science in the final analysis. The history of psychology tells us that human beings have a long and slow process of understanding themselves. As a study of human beings' own knowledge, they lag far behind other sciences. However, existing psychological research results have proven to be effective in improving our education and teaching. The selected books we have introduced earlier are basically classic Western psychology works, but in the historical development of psychology, I will introduce the psychological research results of China and the contributions of the Chinese to world psychology. At the same time, through introductions to different schools of psychology such as behaviorist psychology, psychoanalytic psychology, psychoanalytic psychology, , humanistic psychology, , structuralist psychology and other schools and their educational propositions, we help teachers understand how psychology profoundly influences educational practice.
The second is about general psychology or the foundation of psychology. General psychology is a subject that studies the general activities and laws of human psychology, including cognitive processes such as human sensation, perception, and thinking, emotional processes such as emotions, sentiments, will processes such as motivation, decisions, and execution, as well as personal psychological characteristics such as interests, personality, and self-awareness. General psychology is the basis of all applied psychology . It helps teachers better learn development psychology and educational psychology, and better understand human nature and education.
Third is about the psychology of children and adolescents. The educational targets of kindergartens and primary and secondary schools are children and adolescents. Without understanding children and adolescents, it is impossible to have a truly good education. Whether it is Piaget's theory of cognitive development stages or Kohlberg's theory of moral development stages, it is very beneficial for us to understand the stages of children's development. This section mainly introduces the characteristics and rules of psychological growth of children and adolescents, such as the rapid development period of children's brain before the age of seven, the physiological weaning period of children and the psychological weaning period of adolescents.
is about educational psychology. Educational psychology mainly studies learning psychology about learning processes and methods, moral psychology about the characteristics and laws of moral formation and development, different psychology about students with different personalities and potentials, teacher psychology about teachers' career development and mental health, psychological measurement and evaluation of how to understand and evaluate students and academic performance, etc. There are many research results on educational psychology, and there are many famous experiments, such as forgetting curve , Pygmalion effect , etc., which have very wide applications in education and can be introduced to teachers. In this section, we will also give special introduction to how to observe and study students, how to evaluate students scientifically, etc.
In short, if I write such a psychology book, I hope it is a psychological world map. Through this map, you can know where the most beautiful scenery is, what means of transportation can be reached, and so on.
Teachers should learn some psychology. Only teachers with common sense in psychology can enter students' hearts more smoothly. Only by truly entering the hearts of students can education achieve good results, teachers can truly enter the free kingdom of education, and enjoy the happiness of education.
