Many people will experience some traumatic shocks in their lifetime.
These traumatic events may not leave a long-term impact on some people.
But there are thousands of people who cannot get out of it,
will also break out because of this. Symptoms such as sexual re-experience and nightmares,
or the appearance of negative emotions that hinder daily life,
this phenomenon is called "post-traumatic stress disorder",
is abbreviated as "PTSD".
So, what exactly is "PTSD"? How should
be treated?
Today we invited
Wuxi Mental Health Center
Clinical Psychology Director Wang Guoqiang
to chat with you about this topic.

What is'PTSD'?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) refers to an individual experiencing, witnessing or encountering one or more actual deaths involving himself or others, or being threatened with death, or serious injuries, or After the physical integrity is threatened, the delayed appearance and persistence of the mental disorder caused by the individual. PTSD usually develops within a few days to 6 months after a traumatic event, and the course of the disease lasts at least one month, and can last for several months or years, and in some cases, it can even reach decades. Among them, those with the disease period within 3 months are called acute PTSD, those with more than 3 months are called chronic PTSD, and if the symptoms occur at least 6 months after the traumatic event, it is called delayed PTSD.
What are the main symptoms of'PTSD'?
There are three core symptoms of PTSD: traumatic re-experience symptoms, avoidance and numbness symptoms, and increased alertness symptoms, and this state lasts for more than one month.
1. Traumatic re-experience
The patient’s thinking, memory, or repeated and involuntary emergence of trauma-related situations or content in the patient’s dream, may also have severe emotional reactions, and even feel that the traumatic event seems to happen again same.

2. Avoidance and numbness
Try to avoid events or situations related to traumatic experiences for a long time or continuously,Refuse to participate in related activities, avoid the location of the trauma or the person or event related to the trauma. Some patients even have selective forgetting and cannot recall the details of the event related to the trauma.
3. Increased alertness
Over-alert, over-fear, may be accompanied by sleep difficulties, inattention, irritability and anxiety.

4. Other symptoms
Some patients may also show abuse of addictive substances, aggressive behavior, self-harm or suicidal behavior, etc., these behaviors are often the performance of the patient's psychological behavior coping style. At the same time, depressive symptoms are also common accompanying symptoms in many PTSD patients.
How can I confirm whether I have "PTSD"?
Major traumatic event is the basic condition for the onset of PTSD. The patient experiences, witnesses or encounters the death of himself or others, or life-threatening, serious physical injury, or experience of sexual violence. But traumatic experiences do not necessarily mean that you will suffer from PTSD.
The course of the disease lasts at least 1 month. Even if the symptoms of PTSD appear within one month of the traumatic experience, the diagnosis cannot be made. The prevalence of PTSD is about 7% to 12%. The stress symptoms of some individuals during the traumatic experience will subside spontaneously.
The judgment of PTSD is not a simple symptom comparison. It requires strict screening and careful diagnosis by psychologists and professionally qualified psychologists. Please do not make your own diagnosis based on some suspected symptoms and draw conclusions! !
Once confirmed to have'PTSD', how should I treat it?
is commonly used in psychotherapy for PTSD including cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnotherapy, reprocessing of eye movement desensitization, psychoanalytic therapy, exposure therapy, etc.
Cognitive therapy: Let patients reorganize their way of thinking, look at traumatic events with a more positive attitude, gradually become aware of and correct their unreasonable beliefs, and reduce their level of fear and anxiety.
Exposure therapy: The psychotherapist will ask the patient to repeatedly tell or recall the traumatic process until the patient is gradually desensitized and no longer afraid, and accepts and faces the traumatic experience more calmly.

'PTSD' is a normal response of human beings when encountering a disaster
severe performance or abnormal state,
But we have a way to prevent this reaction from becoming normal.
I hope that people who have been hit hard by their minds can
find more help from family, friends or doctors,
instead of indulging in grief and unable to extricate themselves,
even use tobacco, alcohol and drugs to numb themselves.
And if you have such family and friends around you,
please give them more tolerance and help!
