Recently, the Youyiguan Customs in Pingxiang City, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region seized 992 spiral and spoon-shaped handicrafts. After identification, these handicrafts were actually made from the luminous salamander snail, a national second-level protected animal, and the Tridacna clam, a protected species listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Recently, customs officers from the Friendship Customs of Pingxiang City, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region seized a batch of luminous salamander snails and clam crafts while inspecting a batch of imported mahogany furniture declared as " grass rosewood handicrafts."

This batch of handicrafts were packed in foam boxes and cartons for camouflage, and wrapped with a large amount of tape. When the Nanning Customs H986 Centralized Image Review Center was conducting non-intrusive machine inspection, the intelligent image review system alarmed, indicating that it was suspected of being a clam. After unpacking and inspection by on-site customs officers, they found 992 undeclared spiral and spoon-shaped handicrafts hidden inside.

Among the handicrafts in this batch, the spiral-shaped crafts are made of luminous salamander snails, a total of 290 pieces; the spoon-shaped handicrafts have a head part made of clam clams and a handle part made of luminous salamander snails, a total of 702 pieces. The luminous salamander snail is a national second-level protected animal, and the clam is a protected species listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Customs reminder: According to the provisions of the "Wildlife Protection Law of the People's Republic of China " and the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Import and Export Management of Endangered Wild Animals and Plants", those who have not obtained an import and export permit certificate issued by the national endangered species management department, It is prohibited to trade, carry, or mail endangered animals and plants and their products into and out of the country. Anyone who illegally imports, exports or otherwise smuggles endangered wild animals and plants and their products shall be punished by the customs in accordance with relevant laws and regulations; if the circumstances are serious enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability shall be pursued in accordance with the law.
