According to the Beijing News, some Korean media broke the news that the South Korean government will provide Ukraine with deadly weapons. As soon as the news came out, it immediately triggered a strong reaction from the Russian side. Russian President Putin warned South Korea that if the country provides weapons of destruction to Ukraine, it would undermine the relations between Russia and South Korea.
It can be said that South Korea's participation in the anti-Russian alliance led by the United States was actually "kidnapping" by the US-South Korea alliance and had to do so. Therefore, although South Korea has participated in the activities of the United States, Japan and other countries to issue anti-Russia statements, it has provided multiple batches of assistance to Ukraine. However, since South Korea has not participated in sanctions on Russia, nor has it provided deadly weapons to Ukraine, so far, South Korea has not been included in its "unfriendly countries and regions" blacklist by Russia.
Obviously, both Russia and South Korea have always reserved room for each other to restore normalization of relations. However, as the US-South Korea alliance continues to heat up, South Korea's position on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict also seems to have undergone some subtle changes.
As we all know, as the Russian-Ukrainian conflict lasted for more than 8 months, the United States and European allies have almost all emptied their weapons inventory to support Ukraine in fighting Russia. Therefore, the United States is now calling on its allies to provide weapons and ammunition to Ukraine in a situation where it can no longer meet the needs of the Ukrainian battlefield. As one of the important allies of the United States, South Korea is definitely indispensable to being under pressure from the United States.
However, although South Korea obeys the United States, it has to act according to Putin's expression when it comes to military aid to Ukraine. Sure enough, Russian President Putin said, "Russia and South Korea are still in friendly relations at present, but the Russian side has learned that South Korea plans to provide weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. If Seoul makes such a decision, it will undermine the relations between Russia and South Korea."
In addition, in order to dispel South Korea's attempt to provide deadly weapons to Ukraine, Putin then gave Seoul a "such as" that scared them: "If Russia provides advanced weapons and equipment to North Korea, what would South Korea think? Will they be happy?" Obviously, if the South Korean government makes Russia unhappy, Putin also has enough means to make them "unhappy", which naturally includes providing North Korea with advanced weapons and equipment.
Putin's remarks are equivalent to hitting the "fatal point" of the government of Yoon Seok-yeol. Especially as the Peninsula missile crisis is intensifying, Russia's "element" is enough to make politicians in Seoul who are clamoring to provide weapons to Ukraine unable to sleep at night. After all, a North Korea, which cannot obtain weapons and technical support from the international community, has scared the Koreans to death with the few missiles, in its hands. If it is allowed to obtain more advanced missile weapons from abroad, then South Korea may not have a good life in the future.
In this case, if South Korea does not listen to Putin's advice and insists on providing Ukraine with deadly weapons in accordance with the instructions of the United States. So, as a retaliation measure against South Korea, Russia will surely provide North Korea with weapons and equipment including advanced missiles and fighter jets. This is tantamount to a nightmare for South Korea.
So, after Putin issued the above warning, Yoon Seo-yeo government quickly changed its tone. According to the " Global Times ", South Korean President Yoon Seo-hyo said on the 27th that South Korea has provided a large amount of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and has never provided weapons of destruction to it. But anyway, this is South Korea's sovereignty, and South Korea is working hard to maintain peaceful and good cooperative relations with all countries in the world, including Russia.
Ukraine has publicly requested South Korea to provide weapons and ammunition more than once since the outbreak of the war, but all of them were rejected by Seoul. Obviously, although South Korea does not dare to offend the United States on the Ukraine issue, it is also afraid of retaliation from Russia. Therefore, it has been in a dilemma on whether to provide Ukraine with deadly weapons as required by the United States.
Now it seems that the Korean media recently released the news that weapons and ammunition were provided to Ukraine, which should be the Yoon Seok-yeol authorities testing Putin's reaction. Therefore, after being warned by Putin, Yoon Seo-hyun made the above statement, which seemed to be expressing his attitude to the United States and Ukraine: In order to avoid retaliation from Russia, Seoul has decided not to provide Ukraine with deadly weapons.
