Recently, TSMC has been a big harvest, and its market value has soared one after another. First of all, on July 25, due to reports that Intel will outsource chip business to TSMC , the market value of TSMC soared by US$34 billion overnight, or approximately RMB 238 billion.
And on July 27, with the news from the Taiwan media "Business Times", TSMC officially won the 6-nano chip order of Intel . The market value of TSMC soared 10% again, with a market value increase of 230 billion yuan.
In just a few days, TSMC made history. On the one hand, this is due to the "god assist" sent by Intel , but on the other hand, it also shows that TSMC has strong strength, otherwise Intel would not consider cooperating with competitor TSMC .
And with the deep digging of TSMC , a "mysterious zone 51" inside TSMC has also begun to surface. This is a business department specially made for the United States and has no leakage of confidentiality measures.
According to Taiwanese media reports, TSMC "Mysterious Zone 51" is located in TSMC Longtan Packaging and Testing Factory 3. Its confidentiality is very high, and even the paper is buried with metal wires.
It is reported that this "Mysterious Zone 51" is specially developed for American companies' products, and all participating manufacturers must sign confidentiality terms. Moreover, the confidentiality clause is not limited to both parties, up to five parties, and the entire supply chain must be highly confidential.
According to a bamboo science practitioner who once entered and exited the "Mysterious Zone 51", as long as you participate in the R&D plan of the district, you will adopt vertical single-line operations, and there will definitely be no horizontal or cross-domain situations. The implication is that everyone doesn’t understand each other and only does the tasks assigned by themselves, which shows the degree of confidentiality.
In addition, it is prohibited to carry smartphones when entering and leaving. If you must bring a mobile phone, you can only wear the feature phone provided by TSMC . More importantly, all papers in the TSMC R&D center are buried with metal wires, and they cannot carry paper through the metal detection door at all, and this is all to prevent someone from leaking through the paper.
Why does TSMC attach so much importance to confidentiality? In addition to this being a cooperation with American companies, it may also have a certain relationship with SMIC .
We all know that the reason why SMIC was quickly established was because Zhang Rujing relied on his personal appeal to bring out more than 300 elite backbones from the World Semiconductor and TSMC he founded. In just three years, SMIC became the top three semiconductor giants in the world. This also made TSMC always worry, so there were constant lawsuits between TSMC and SMIC .
TSMC first sued SMIC when SMIC was busy listing in Hong Kong. At that time, TSMC sued SMIC in the United States in California , and demanded TSMC to compensate 1 billion US dollars on the grounds that SMIC stolen TSMC trade secrets.
Although the two sides reached an out-of-court settlement this time, the good times did not last long. Not long after, TSMC sued again for the same reason. Finally, in September 2009, TSMC won the case completely. This time, SMIC suffered huge losses, not only compensating US$200 million and 10% of the company's equity, but even Zhang Rujing was forced to not engage in the semiconductor industry for life.
To be honest, Zhang Zhongmou is indeed amazing (it was officially announced to retire at the age of 87). Except for Zhang Rujing, who is from SMIC , he is truly without any opponents. At that time, Zhang Rujing's Shida Semiconductor was only three and a half years old. Zhang Zhongmou saw the crisis and hurriedly spent a huge amount of money to acquire it. If we give World Semiconductor some time to develop, TSMC may not be the only one that can dominate now.
As the saying goes, "Getting one's mistakes will make you smarter." This may be why TSMC's confidentiality measures are so strict.
This issue of discussion: I wonder what you think of "Mysterious Zone 51"?
