National V Standard was implemented nationwide on January 1, 2018. This is more stringent than before. The restrictions on motor vehicle emissions such as nitrogen oxide , carbon and hydrocarbon compounds, carbon monoxide and suspended particles must be reduced. The nitrogen oxide emissions must be reduced by 25%, and the emission restrictions of non-methane hydrocarbon and PM have been increased, reducing air pollution, and preventing and controlling haze.
This time, the country explicitly stipulates the National VI emission standards, and exhaust emissions will be more than 50% less than the National V emission standards. The emissions of carbon monoxide, total hydrocarbons and non-methane total hydrocarbons will be reduced by 50%, while nitrogen oxide emissions will be reduced by 42%.
The implementation of the National VI standard does not have a great impact on cars under the National V standard, and they can still be used as usual. However, cars under the National II and National III depreciated significantly, and in some first-tier cities like Beijing, cars under the National II and National III standard are not allowed to enter the city. Now, cars under the National IV standard are no longer allowed to be registered and transferred in many cities.
