On October 28, 2014, Xie Renjun, who was appointed as the first project manager of the drilling and mining design of Lingshui 17-2's deep water self-operated gas field development drilling and mining design, felt unprecedented pressure, but he still sent an email to the leadership of the Research Institute to make a promise and quickly enter the role.

Xie Renjun told reporters that before receiving the project, he was exposed to shallow water projects within 300 meters, and he had no idea where to start the deep water projects. He only knew that the technical difficulties were difficult and many challenges, but he was not very clear about the difficulties, and where the key risk points and solutions were in the specific design. "At that time, the independent development of deep water gas fields in China was still blank, with high technical thresholds and large investment. At the same time, it encountered a cliff-like decline in international oil prices. It was necessary to overcome technical difficulties while meeting low-cost challenges. In October 2014, the project team was formed under heavy pressure."

Everything starts from scratch. The members of the project team studied together, collected information, searched documents, and inquired standards. After more than a month of brainstorming, they completely bid farewell to the "blank" stage. The project's challenges, technical bottlenecks, directions, task goals and other contents were sorted out, and a systematic planning plan was formulated to clarify the direction of project progress.

Xie Renjun introduced that Lingshui 17-2 gas field spans multiple well areas, with a span of 50 kilometers east-west and east, and a water depth and height difference of more than 300 meters. There are many problems to be solved when drilling and completing wells: in areas with a large size of 210,000 standard football fields, the well-by-well analysis and overall layout of 11 wells must be completed; the pressure window is narrow, and it is easy to drill in shallow geological disasters, and the well control risk is high; the reservoir strength is low, and it is very easy to produce sand; the economic threshold for deep water development is high, and the cost of reference wells is extremely high.

In the technical research stage, this type of communication and discussion is intensive, and it clearly records the process of communication and discussion, results summary, improvement and adjustment of solving each problem. Xie Renjun said that through the coordination and joint efforts of multiple parties, the project team broke the routine and solved one difficult problem after another.

How to connect 11 wells? The project team of the General Institute of Research has developed a comprehensive evaluation technology for underwater wellhead layout with cost minimization as the objective function, established the overall layout of the underwater production system combining "independent wellhead + centralized wellhead", and designed a deep-water intelligent completion technology plan."The 11 wells are like twinkling stars on the bottom of the sea. We are the ones who depict the 'starry sky map' under the sea." Wu Yi, the head of drilling professional, told reporters proudly.

Deep water oil and gas reservoirs are dormant under thousands of meters of seawater and rock formations formed by millions of years of sediment. The safety drilling window is narrow like a "steel wire". When the drilling fluid density is low, it collapses, and when it is high, it leaks. How to ensure that the drill bit passes through it safely without bias? The project team established a safety density window calculation method suitable for deep water geological and mechanical environments, designed a reasonable well body structure and drilling fluid density, ensuring that all development wells are safe and accident-free during drilling. In view of the weak cementation and sand prone to sand production in the reservoir of this gas field, the project team optimized and formed a set of long-term sand prevention strategies and process technologies suitable for deep-water gas fields, which avoided the risk of high-speed gases being interspersed with sand particles that may damage the pipeline and stop production.

In view of the safety risk that the wellbore will generate annulus trap pressure, the project team has innovated annulus pressure solutions to achieve controllable "retraction and release" of annulus pressure; the multi-factor deep water casing column design method can ensure the robustness and longevity of the "skeleton" of the deep water oil and gas wellbore; the developed gas intrusion monitoring and early warning system has increased the safety of deep water drilling well control. These technological innovations have promoted the revision and upgrading of relevant enterprise standards.

The project team immediately discussed the relevant issues and gave an adjustment plan.

"From the design delivery to the actual operation process of the project, the Research Institute has always sent special personnel to follow up, grasp the on-site operation progress, and communicate and interact with the construction party at any time to ensure that the design and the operation site are 'zero distance'. In addition to the construction ship, the project technical plan and the final construction plan are more than 95%. "Xie Renjun introduced that usually the degree of consistency reaches 85% is considered an ideal state: few changes have a small impact on the construction period, which can ensure the progress of the operation; some materials need to be purchased in advance according to the design plan, and the higher the degree of consistency, the more controllable the cost.

It is reported that the exploration and development of Lingshui 17-2 gas field is an important measure to practice the concept of environmental protection and increase the development of clean energy. After production, the offshore natural gas pipeline network will rely on the main artery to solve the natural gas supply problems in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Qiong and other places.
