Regarding this action, Genghis Khan had deeper considerations: if he wanted to completely conquer the Jin Dynasty, it was very necessary to occupy strategically important areas such as Gansu, Alxa and Ordos. In the autumn of 1226, he sent troops to conquer Xixia, captured Lingzhou at the end of that year, and then launched a siege on the capital of Xixia, now Ningxia City.
