is still upset about the dull holiday ending?
recalled how he spent the last day of the National Day holiday - stayed at home and watched old movies; thought hard, and finally walked to the mall that he had visited countless times...
really missed time! Aren’t the ideal precious holiday used to experience the unknown and pursue excitement?

However, recently, a study published by the American Psychological Society in " Journal of Personality and Social Psychology " is enough to let you feel relieved. Research points out that your choice is actually the choice of most people. When people realize that time is limited (such as deadline is approaching; holidays are about to end), they tend to pursue familiar experiences rather than fresh stimulation. This is a common psychological phenomenon.
This arrangement is not only reasonable, but also has positive significance for alleviating "post-holiday syndrome".
Return to old love vs pursuit of unknowns? Dependline

people are "loving the new and getting tired of the old". Past theories suggest that most people have a harder time resisting exciting new things than old things they have experienced. For example, in a newly released movie and an old movie that has been repeatedly broadcast, people often choose the former.
However, first author of the paper, Ed O'Brien, Ph.D., and Yuji Katsumata Winet, of the University of Chicago , have been skeptical about this. In order to verify the above theory, they invited nearly 6,000 volunteers to participate in the experiment this time.
In the first experiment, volunteers were asked to choose between exciting unknown scenes and familiar scenes they like (such as: never read novels vs. old loves I once read; traveling to an unvisited city vs. revisiting the city I once visited). Among them, half of the participants acted as the control group and simply chose one of them; while the other half had to imagine that this was their last chance to read and travel. As a result, among the second group of participants, the number of people who chose familiar novels and familiar places far exceeded the previous group.
Then, the volunteers were told that they would receive a restaurant coupon that must be used within three months, but they could choose whether to go to a restaurant they are familiar with or a new restaurant. The researchers investigated the participants' dining intentions at different time nodes.
They found that as the deadline approached, participants' choices began to change—in the first month, 52% of people would choose to "try out" and go to a restaurant that they had never eaten before; in the third month, this ratio dropped to 32%.
researchers speculate that the increasingly strong perception of the "end" will affect human choices, causing them to temporarily abandon the "nature" of loving the new and getting tired of the old and returning to "old love". Is this arrangement reasonable for
?
"This shows that the approaching deadline will push people toward familiar and pleasant experiences or things. These experiences and things may make more sense in the individual's subconscious mind." Winet said.
Many people often feel weak and upset after a long holiday. It is precisely because they have not adjusted their psychology in time and still think they are on vacation. "And these meaningful experiences can psychologically imply a 'end'." In addition, familiar people, things, and things will also create a sufficient sense of security for individuals.

In other words, on the last day of the holiday, "meeting acquaintances", "watching old movies", and "staying in a familiar environment" are beneficial to the body and mind and can effectively alleviate the "post-holiday syndrome".
O'Brien lamented that this study is quite interesting because it questions the "bucket list" in many film and television dramas. In film and television works, terminally ill people always try their best to pursue excitement and do things they have never tried in the last moments of their lives. "Facts have proved that the wishes of terminally ill patients may be the opposite in reality."
Based on this, the researchers not only proposed a "more reasonable" holiday plan for all workers - starting from visiting new attractions and ending with reviewing old attractions; they also proposed a "more profitable" plan for cafe operators that are about to be closed down and rectified - stop launching new drinks and launching old drinks familiar to consumers.
They also firmly believe that in the future, such psychological discoveries will help solve a wider range of social problems.
