Time flies. It has been 43 years since I graduated from chemistry department of Ningxia University in July 1976 and was assigned to teach at Shangliang Middle School. Although only three short years in Shangliang Middle School, Shangliang Middle School was the first stop of my 35-year teaching career and my starting point as a people’s teacher.

Recalling the short three-year teaching career in Shangliang Middle School, many past events are vivid and unforgettable. I can clearly remember every beam I have traveled, every class I have taken, every teacher I have worked with, and every principal who has helped me. These days, every time I recalled the past, many details came to my mind, making me toss and turn, and I couldn't sleep at night; the longing for the past and the deceased spontaneously arises.
1. First-time arrival at Shangliang Middle School
After I graduated and returned to Lund , I waited at home for an assignment from the Bureau of Culture and Education. Where did the policy at that time come from? In principle, go back there after graduation.About August 20th, I received a notice that I was assigned to teach at Shangliang Middle School. After receiving the notice, I was happy and worried again. I am happy to be an honorable teacher from now on; I am worried that some of my classmates who graduated with me were assigned to Shatang Middle School, and some were assigned to Shenlin Middle School and other Chuandao schools. . But I was assigned to the mountains. I have never been from the county seat to Shangliang Middle School. Fortunately, I found out that teacher Liu Xiuzhen from a production team with me was teaching at Shangliang Primary School, and I found her to understand the situation. Teacher Liu introduced that Shangliang Middle School and Elementary School are together, so he arranged to report to the school with her. She could be my guide.
It was about August 27th and 8th. Teacher Liu and I set off from the county town in the afternoon of the same day and walked to Shangliang Middle School. At that time, my packing was very simple, I just carried a yellow satchel with a few books in it, so I just packed lightly on the road. According to Teacher Liu, there are two ways to go from the county town to Shangliang Middle School. One is to cross the red-flag ridge and cross the gorge from Luojia Gorge. You can only reach it by turning over three big mountains on the way; but this road is really not easy to walk. , Almost no one walks because of the deep canyon. The other way is to walk along the Longzhuang Highway to Juma Chaliang, and then walk west along the mountain road; this road is relatively easy to walk, but the distance is longer. At the suggestion of Teacher Liu, we chose to take the big road.
I walked for about two hours from the county seat to Juma Chaliang, and took a short rest on the beam, and then walked along the dirt road halfway up the mountain, bypassing a few big bends and turning over the hanging ditch beam. To Fossil Bay. I asked if Mr. Liu was coming soon, Mr. Liu said that there is still a long way to go. At this time, we were already thirsty and tired and couldn't walk anymore. Fortunately, Teacher Liu is familiar with Xinhua. Under her guidance, we came to the principal of Xinhua Primary School Ma. After dinner at Principal Ma’s place, it was getting late, so we stayed at Xinhua Primary School for one night. After getting up and washing his face the next day, he set off again, and finally arrived at Shangliang Middle School at around nine or ten o'clock.
After a short break in Teacher Liu’s room, I found Principal Ma’s room to report. After a brief conversation with Principal Ma, I learned that Mr. Xu, Mr. Liang of Yinchuan, and Mr. Yu of Hunan had not yet arrived at the school. At the same time, they had a general understanding of the school's situation and the situation of the teachers.Principal Ma showed me the school appearance of Shangliang Middle School.
teaching area has two classrooms located on a large flat area on the west side of the campus. There are four classrooms in two buildings. It is tall and neat, and the large glass windows with dark blue paint on the blue bricks and white walls provide good lighting. It's just that the desks and stools are relatively old, but they are neatly arranged. There are a few simple sports equipment such as a basketball court and a horizontal bar on this flat ground. Go uphill from the teaching area in the west to the teacher dormitory area in the east. The east side is composed of two large trapezoidal flats. A new row of teachers’ dormitories is built on the one on the hillside. On the other lower flat are the first row of dormitories and two civil-timbered beam classrooms. There are both teachers' dormitory and student dormitory. The overall impression is that the campus is small, but clean and tidy, with fresh air, and backed by mountains.
I went to the restaurant for lunch at noon, and the restaurant was on the east side of the second row of dormitories on the terraced flats in the east of the campus. At that time, Principal Ma, Teacher Wang Wenju, Teacher Liu Wanji, Teacher Li from the General Affairs Office, and Teacher Liu and others were eating together. The first meal I ate was potato dishes fried by Master Zhao from Hufang and a big steamed bun per person. The potato dishes are fragrant and delicious, and the steamed buns are white and soft, and you can eat them with relish.
After the meal, Mr. Li, who is in charge of general affairs, assigned me a dormitory, which is in the second row of dormitories on the trapezoidal flat ground to the east. The dormitory is a house less than ten square meters. The one on the right is the dormitory of Teacher Li Yingnan, and the activity room on the left. In the past, it was a dormitory for girls and boys. The room only has a bed board and a desk. After cleaning the room, I returned home the next day and brought simple bedding, washbasins, towels and other daily necessities with my bicycle, and then came to the school via Zuma Chaliangyuan Road and officially started to work.
1976 was an extraordinary year in Chinese history. On September 9th after school started, bad news came from Beijing that the great leader Chairman Mao passed away. Immediately all the teachers and students of the school took active action, writing large slogans, elegiac couplets, tying wreaths, making white paper flowers, and organizing students to participate in mourning activities in the commune.
In October of that year, the Party Central Committee headed by Comrade Hua Guofeng smashed the "Gang of Four" anti-Party group in one fell swoop.The school is another big action. The task of writing large slogans fell on Li Yingnan and me. Teacher Li is very good at using a brush to write slogans like Song Ti, and he writes well and fast. I learned from him, first I used white chalk to outline the big frame of the word, and then I wrote it in black. The school also assigned me, as a school representative, to speak at a conference organized by the commune to denounce and criticize the "Gang of Four". After coming to the school and experiencing these two large-scale political activities, all the work of the school gradually became normal.
