@ Parents and friends:

In winter, infants and young children have an increased chance of being infected with the new coronavirus, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus and other pathogens. Generally speaking, the main symptoms of most children infected with new coronavirus are similar to infections caused by other viruses . However, there are also some infants and young children whose condition changes rapidly, and even develops high fever, convulsions, and is life-threatening. Parents should closely observe the changes in their condition and seek medical treatment in time.

Whether to seek medical treatment immediately or observe at home can be judged based on the child's mental state. If the child's mental state, eating habits, and playing conditions are relatively good, he or she can be observed at home to reduce the risk of infection from unnecessary medical treatment.

You need to seek medical attention immediately if the following conditions occur:

(1) A child under 3 months old has a fever.

(2) A child aged 3-24 months has a fever that cannot be reduced to normal after physical cooling and lasts for more than 24 hours.

(3) Children over 2 years old have fever that lasts for 3 days and develops clinical manifestations such as poor energy, nausea, and vomiting.

(4) The child has dyspnea, accompanied by moaning, nasal flaring or three concave signs, and intermittent apnea; consciousness disorder , such as drowsiness, lethargy, or convulsions; pale skin all over the body, fast heart rate, cold hands and feet, purple lips or limbs; refusal to eat or difficulty in feeding, dehydration, and little or no urine. Children with underlying diseases are advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they experience the above symptoms. In case of emergency or serious situation, please call 120 directly.

During febrile convulsions in infants and young children, the body temperature is usually above 38.5 degrees. The symptoms include stiffness or shaking of limbs, trismus, eyes tilted or turned up, accompanied by bluish lips, and may not respond to external stimuli. If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, seek medical attention as soon as possible. The following measures can be taken at home:

(1) Stay in a supine position, untie the collar, keep the respiratory tract open, put the child in a relaxed state, and avoid hypoxia.

(2) Turn your head to one side, as far as possible to the right, to prevent secretions from accidentally entering the respiratory tract and causing suffocation. If foaming at the mouth occurs, clean it up in time.

(3) Physical cooling, wipe the forehead, neck, palms, soles of feet, etc. with a warm towel. Lowering body temperature can relieve and control symptoms to a certain extent.

(4) When a convulsion occurs, do not feed the child anything, including medicine and water, and do not try to restrain the child's limbs. It is not recommended that parents pinch the child.
