Once a scald occurs, it is necessary to deal with it in a timely and effective manner. In the process of dealing with scalds, there are a few things that seem reasonable but cannot be done. Do you know what are the things?
1. Do not apply purple potion or red mercury (red potion) after scalding to avoid affecting the changes in the observation of wound surface. It is forbidden to apply toothpaste and soy sauce to avoid affecting the doctor's judgment on the degree to which burns and add unnecessary pain to the patient.
2. Rinse with cold water after severe scalds, and then send it to the hospital for treatment immediately, and do not treat it at home.
3. Cooling treatment should start immediately after burns and scalds. It can only relieve pain after more than 5 minutes, and cannot reduce or avoid the formation of blisters. Because when the cooling treatment has not started, the residual heat from burning continues to damage the skin.
4. If the scald area is not the limbs and the wound cannot be soaked directly in water for cooling treatment, you can wrap the injured area with a towel, then water it continuously, or wrap the ice with a dry towel and then compress the scald area with a cold compress. The effect is better, but remember not to contact the ice directly with the skin.
5. If the scalded part is wearing clothes or shoes and socks, don’t rush to take them off, otherwise the skin will be peeled off along with the clothes, shoes and socks. This will not only increase the patient’s pain, but also easily lead to infection and prolong the course of the disease.
6. If the scald has blisters and ulcers, do not soak in cold water to prevent infection.
7. For those with third-degree burns and scalding, they should be simply bandaged with clean sheets or clothes immediately to avoid contamination and re-damage. Do not apply drugs to the traumatic surface, keep them clean, and quickly send them to the hospital for treatment.
8. Those who are thirsty after scalding should drink a small amount of light salt water, and not a large amount of boiled water. shock patients should strictly restrict drinking water 24 hours in the early stage.
9. Do not tear the blisters on the skin. If possible, you can use a sterile needle to pierce a small hole at the bottom of the blister to slowly drain the water from the blister to try to maintain the integrity of the skin.
10. Generally, after second or third degree scalding, routine injection of tetanus antitoxin is required to prevent the occurrence of tetanus .
After cleaning the affected area, if the blisters are not broken, do not pick them up without authorization. Be careful not to squeeze them, because broken skin may cause infection. If the hands and feet are burned, the affected limb can be lifted so that it is higher than the heart. If you have eye injury, you should first wash it with water for 5 minutes, and then send it to the hospital immediately. Never apply other medicines casually to avoid making the damage worse.
