Great, we finally have a scientific and healthy diet plan that suits the taste of us Chinese people!
14x3 meals a day provides unique Chinese recipes, covering the four classic cuisines of Shandong, Shanghai, Cantonese and Sichuan, retaining the flavor of the dishes and being easy to operate. Just spend an extra 40 cents a day and take home a healthy heart.
is co-led by Professor Wu Yangfeng and researcher Wang Yanfang of Peking University. They have developed a Chinese Heart Healthy Diet Plan (CHH) based on Chinese local specialties and have completed the relevant preliminary evaluation. The research results were recently announced in the International Published in Circulation, the top journal in the cardiovascular field. [1]
According to the results, following the CHH diet for four weeks can improve dietary nutrient intake such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and energy intake, and obtain significant blood pressure lowering effects. systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood pressure The average levels decreased by 10.0 mmHg and 3.8 mmHg respectively. Not only that, the dishes are delicious, easy to operate, and cost-effective. Spending an extra 0.4 yuan a day can reduce systolic blood pressure by 1 mmHg.

Chinese people are very particular about their food. However, nowadays, this "paying attention to" not only includes color, aroma and taste, but also health.
Since the 1980s, the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) has increased rapidly in China, and dramatic changes in dietary habits are primarily responsible [2]. According to the results of the 2012 Chinese Resident Nutrition and Health Status Survey, compared with 1982 data, Chinese people’s intake of grains, roots and beans, and fruits and vegetables dropped by 34%, 80%, and 15% respectively; Under the epidemic, the intake of meat, eggs, and cooking oil has increased sharply, increasing by 162%, 233%, and 132% respectively [1]. In 2017, the risk of diet-related cardiovascular disease death among Chinese residents ranked first in the world [3].
Of course, "Healthy China" is not an empty slogan.
In the past few decades, there have been a lot of studies to prove the importance of a healthy diet . Programs such as the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet can effectively reduce blood pressure and CVD risks, and official guidelines from various countries have also given relevant recommendations. However, for the "tough-tongued" Chinese people, the diet plan introduced from abroad is not happy to implement for a long time. Many people also try to "Chinese" the DASH diet and Mediterranean diet , but the actual effect is not good. Strong evidence support.
In order to cope with this situation, the DECIDE-Diet trial was launched. aims to develop a Chinese diet plan that integrates delicious taste, convenience, healthy ingredients, and beautiful prices. It can improve the cardiovascular health of Chinese residents by adjusting the dietary structure. This is the Chinese Heart Healthy Diet Plan (CHH) [1,4].
Based on the Chinese Health Guide and drawing on the DASH dietary structure, researchers developed four different versions of the CHH diet based on the four classic Chinese cuisines of Shandong, Shanghai, Guangdong and Sichuan. These four cuisines represent northern and eastern China respectively. , dietary preferences in the South and Southwest regions. Recipes are developed by investigating the favorite and most common local delicacies of local residents. Professional chefs improve the dishes to meet dietary standards without sacrificing the original flavor of the dishes. The taste is evaluated based on the volunteers' taste feedback before the study officially begins. Adjust [1,4].
Seeing the efforts made by the research team, tears flowed from the corners of Qidian Cao's mouth uncontrollably.
Comparison of the nutritional content of CHH and daily diet
Wipe away your tears, let’s take a look at how CHH performed in this dietary intervention study.
This study included a total of 265 volunteers from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu. They had mild hypertension (systolic blood pressure 130-159 mmHg). The average age was 57 years old (25-75 years old), and 52% were women.
volunteers were randomly divided into the CHH group and the control group, and received the CHH diet of the corresponding cuisine (the four cities corresponding to Shandong, Shanghai, Cantonese, and Sichuan cuisine) and local diet respectively. The baseline levels of the two groups were similar. Volunteers were required to eat at least 80% of their meals on site, and researchers used the remaining meals to obtain their eating status to assess dietary nutrient intake levels.Blood pressure was measured before and after the start of the study, and in the morning at the end of each week.
Preliminary statistical results show that during the 28-day study period, the average nutritional and energy intake of participants in the CHH group reached the expected level. Compared with baseline, the energy sources of participants in the CHH group changed. The proportion of energy intake from carbohydrates, and protein sources increased, and the proportion of energy intake from fat sources decreased; the proportions of dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium and calcium Intake also increased and sodium intake decreased; average body weight decreased by 0.6 kg.
After 28 days of CHH diet or local diet, the volunteers’ calorie sources and sodium, potassium and calcium intake experienced some changes
First, let’s pay attention to health issues.
From a cardiovascular health perspective, the CHH diet succeeds in its mission. Compared with baseline, the systolic blood pressure (SBP) of volunteers in the CHH group decreased by 15.0 mmHg and the diastolic blood pressure (DBP) decreased by 6.7 mmHg. Compared with the control group, the CHH group also made a lot of net profit, with SBP reduced by 10.0 mmHg and DBP reduced by 3.8 mmHg. Although the delicacies enjoyed by volunteers in the CHH group did not belong to the same cuisine, there was no significant difference in blood pressure reduction benefits .
It is worth noting that compared to men, the SBP reduction of female volunteers in the CHH group was greater (–12.0 mmHg vs -7.6 mmHg). The researchers believe that this may be because the female volunteers followed the rules. 52% and 42% of the female and male volunteers in the CHH group consumed all the nutritious meals respectively. I think it may be because women are more sensitive to sodium [5-7], so they can benefit more from a low-salt CHH diet? A few days ago, a study also showed that potassium supplementation has a better blood pressure-lowering effect in women who eat a high-salt diet than in men.
With a slight improvement on the local diet, CHH can achieve significant blood pressure lowering effects
(A: systolic blood pressure; B: diastolic blood pressure; C: changing trends of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the two groups)
Let’s pay attention to the traditional color, fragrance . This is really bothering Qidian Cake. The palatability of many healthy meals cannot be complimented. For example, the cold sauce sprinkled on vegetable leaves is completely inferior to the raw bitter chrysanthemum dipped in miso..
observed the leftovers and found that the types and quantities of dishes eaten by the two groups of volunteers were similar. In other words, the volunteers in the CHH group did not have any obvious "unaccustomed to eating" phenomenon. The CHH diet can retain the original flavor of the dishes while ensuring dietary nutrition. The two groups of volunteers had the same preference rating for the dishes, both 9.5 (out of 10) .
CHH retains the taste on the basis of health
To Qidian Gao’s surprise, the researchers also carefully calculated the cost of ingredients. The average cost of ingredients in the CHH group and the control group were 24 yuan/day and 21 yuan/day respectively. If is converted into blood pressure reduction benefits, it is equivalent to spending an extra 4 cents a day to adjust the diet, which can reduce systolic blood pressure by 1 mmHg. Whether you are a worker or a student party member, you can breathe a sigh of relief this time. There is no need to worry about the security of
. In this study, a total of 14 adverse events (including colds, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, physical discomfort, and ankle sprains) were reported in the CHH group and the control group. None of them were serious adverse events and were not related to dietary intervention. No volunteers dropped out as a result.
Generally speaking, the field of antihypertensive and healthy diet can be regarded as having "China's power". The CHH diet developed by the Peking University team has a significant blood pressure lowering effect. The dishes are in line with Chinese tastes and bring less economic burden, making it easy to implement .
Anyway, Qidian Gao has already found a small bench to sit and wait for the menu. China has a unique food culture. If we can make Chinese food a healthy diet, we will kill two birds with one stone. We look forward to the researchers completing in-depth research and promotion of this dietary plan, and releasing the menu details soon!
Easter egg: In the design plan submitted in 2020 [4], the researchers slightly revealed the recipe of Shandong cuisine. You can take a look at it as a spoiler.
