The exhibition "Under the Ordinary" features two series of works by Serbian artist Dr. Mateja Ristic: "Under Ordinary" and "Balance". The former is a reflection on our busy lives in a social environment full of online media. The latter observes and feels himself through visual means, allowing himself to seek solace and balance in difficult times.
In life, online media guides the direction of our attention, and social roles direct how we live. Through these two aspects, ordinary life seems to be arranged clearly. However, artist Mateja Ristic realizes that there is no truth about emotional situations and self here. The artist uses visual language to elevate the inner spirit to the picture, and then interacts and dialogues with it, presenting his own reflection on the media system and social system.
Mateja Ristic's works transcend a single cultural attribute and can present a new spiritual model to the audience. At the same time, this exhibition hides a secret, waiting for you to discover it.
Mateja presents two series of works: A Portrait of the Ordinary, and (Un)Balanced. The former is an exploration of our busy, media-saturated lives characterized by an absence of awareness and lack of attention. The latter is a visual autoethnography ; a search for solace in troubling times. Respectively, both showcase the artist's reflections around ordinary, everyday life in visual language.
Mateja's works transcend cultural singularities, and presents a critical approach for the audience to consider. At the same time, this opus of works leaves room for everyone to work through their own perspectives. We are looking forward to your discovery.
