The lingering memory of my daughter

These buildings still remain in the Hongyanglou courtyard in Kaifeng, Henan, where the 37th Regiment of the 13th Air Force Division was located.
We are all descendants of our Air Force predecessors who lived and grew up here. Our seniors are (from right to left in the order of their children's photos) Captain Ye Youfa, Chief of Staff Xu Fu, Chief of Staff Zhai Nianxiang, Political Commissar Dai Changyi, Director Li, Political Commissar Fang Fu, Political Commissar Fu Yiwen, Su Tingjun, and Captain Shi Jinming.
I was born in the 1960s. My father, Wang Zheping, was an aircrew mechanic of the 37th Regiment. His mother, Li Huanhua, is the political officer of the 37th Regiment. In that turbulent era, I was ignorant and thought we were a happy family of four. actually not. Later, when I was growing up, I realized that my father’s life was wasted. His bitter tears could only be endured in the dark night, which is worthy of the respect and comfort of the younger generation.
Dad Wang Zheping was born in 1929 and grew up in the family of a railway teacher in the old days. Affected by his family environment, he received a step-by-step education since he was a child. In 1948, he was admitted to Northeast Institute of Technology and studied physics.
In October 1950, U.S. imperial aircraft and artillery bombed the banks of the Yalu River, kicking off the campaign to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea. At that time, in order to cultivate the volunteer air force reserve force, the country mobilized, all people participated, and actively joined the army to protect their homes and the country. Dad catches up with recruiting pilots among students. He dropped out of school and joined the army and was called up. After rigorous examination and training, after passing five levels, Zhanliu will become a glorious Air Force pilot student. A total of nine people from the entire college have passed the exam.
With the signing of the "Panmunjom Armistice Agreement", the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea was announced to be over. The commemorative medal of the national people's condolences to the People's Liberation Army delegation, made on February 17, 1954, is still preserved by my father.

Through the test and practice in the army, my father was recognized for his hard work, unremitting efforts to study business, and his perseverance and good character without seeking fame or gain. He gloriously joined the Communist Party of China in July 1954. From then on, the oath of joining the party - striving for communism became a lifelong goal.

Influenced by his family background, my father was transferred from the 37th Air Force Regiment. Go to Unit 7249 of the Airborne Parachute Division. Work and body and mind both plummeted.
Overnight, my beliefs, ideals and pursuits in life suddenly fell to the bottom. Thanks to my mother who works in the Political Office of the 37th Regiment, she enlightened, advised and comforted me. Dad emerged from depression and hesitation. Go to a new position and work hard to fulfill your vow to join the party. In the parachute division, he served as a member of the cooking squad, an administrator, and a repairman. Do a good job, do a good job, and be rewarded by the army. He was finally retired as director.
Li Huanhua was transferred with the army in 1962 to serve as an officer in the Political Department of the 37th Regiment, and was later specially approved to join the army.

Between 1976 and 1977, my parents retired from the army and transferred to my mother’s hometown of Hebei Province to start their second journey in life. My mother teaches in a middle school and my father teaches in a university. They work hard to teach and educate people. Be humble and tolerant, and have no regrets until retirement.
