At the western end of Democratic Road, Hebei District, there are two unique century-old buildings. One is Austrian style, grand and grand, and the other is German style, exquisite and agile. People say that standing at this intersection is "Feng Yuan left and right" (Full and right). Because the building on the left is the old house of Feng Guozhang , and the old house of Yuan’s family on the right is related to Yuan Shikai .
In the previous article, the old house of Yuan has been introduced. Yuan Shikai's former subordinate, Feng Guozhang, who was the leader of the direct warlords and former president of the Republic of China, built his own "Feng Family Courtyard" opposite the old house of Yuan. This "court" is actually an apartment villa. The house is large and luxurious.
This mansion is located at No. 50-54, Democratic Road. In 1913, Feng Guozhang obtained three buildings from Aoguo engineer Bruner, covering an area of 6.376 acres. By 1915, Feng commissioned a German architect to expand and follow up according to the original architectural style design, and build a garden-style garden. It is known as "Feng Family Garden" or "Feng Family Courtyard". The expanded building after
was built on the basis of the original three buildings, forming a one-piece building. The new building is located to the north and south, and there is a three-story dome tower in the middle of the building, with a strong Austrian style. The building is a brick and wood structure, with two floors as a whole, with a red waxing top, and a tiger window to the south.
The "Feng Family Courtyard" during this period had a total of 110 buildings and 54 bungalows, and the building area of was 4661 square meters. Many people in the Feng clan live here, which is very spectacular. It is said that Feng Guozhang's great-grandson Feng Gong also lived here.
After the liberation, this place was once changed to a coal factory, and later built Li Lane, named Fengjia Hutong, and was renamed Huayuan Lane in 1982.
