Suhua Highway was opened to traffic in 1932, starting from Suao Town, Yilan County in the north and ending at Zhongzheng Road in Hualien County in the south. It is 118 kilometers long and is roughly built on the coastline. It is a world-famous landscape highway. Because this road is built on cliffs and has beautiful Pacific scenery along the way, it is loved by travel enthusiasts around the world. Qingshui Cliff , located in the coastal cliff of Xiulin Township, Hualien County. It is a famous tourist attraction on the Suhua Highway and Ren to Chongde Road section. It is also one of the eight scenic spots in Taiwan, with a total length of about 12 kilometers. Qingshui Cliff is mainly formed by plate collisions, abundant rain, weathering and erosion and sea erosion. The slope here is extremely steep and almost vertical, with Qingshui Mountain at the top being 2407 meters above sea level. It can be said that it is "high cliff and deep valley".

Tarouko Park is located two or three kilometers from Liwu Creek on Suhua Highway, and Taroko Grand Canyon is part of it. The park features canyons and cliffs, with cliffs standing steeply and quiet scenery. The "Tarot Grand Canyon" is therefore one of the eight scenic spots in Taiwan. The first east-west crossing road in Taiwan is passed in the park, called Zhongheng Highway. The alpine areas in the park retain many ice age relics, such as mountain pepper fish.

Aohua Waterfall is located in Nanao Township, Yilan County, the middle reaches of Aohua Creek, a tributary of Hepingxi lower reaches. The waterfall hangs obliquely among the sunken mountain walls, with towering cliffs on all three sides. The waterfall has a drop of 47 meters and a width of 2 to 5 meters. A 5-meter-deep waterfall is formed below. The waterfall area is surrounded by three sides, rugged and strong, surrounded by mountains, and feels like being in a paradise. The water flows straight from the top, the water is abundant, and the sound is like thunder.

Guanyin Pavilion , during the improvement project of the Suhua Highway curve, the huge Guanyin stone fell from the upper high slope and fell from the original second Guanyin old bridgehead north guide road 2.5 meters into the soil. Although Suhua Highway is called the most beautiful highway, it is also called the "death highway". Due to the narrow roads and dangerous terrain, this section of the road also often occurs. From 1997 to May 2008, a total of 1,046 people were killed and 13,488 people were injured.
In 2010, due to typhoon Meiji in Suao Town, a traffic accident that caused a landslide to hit the tourist bus and fell into the sea. The accident caused the death of 20 mainland members, and a total of 26 Taiwanese people died, which is one of the most serious traffic accidents for mainland tourists to Taiwan.
