On August 15, Tretten Bridge in southern Norway suddenly collapsed. Two drivers on the bridge were trapped and have been rescued safely. Norway's official has transferred temporary steel truss bridge as a replacement.
Treteng Bridge is 150 meters long and will be opened to traffic in 2012 and will complete the latest maintenance in 2021. Norwegian officials have launched an independent investigation into the collapse of the bridge, which has also triggered speculation about whether there are unknown defects in the timber and steel truss combination bridges.
In 2016, a timber steel bridge collapsed in Norway, and 11 similar bridges were closed. In August 2022, after the Tretten Bridge collapsed, 14 similar bridges were closed again. Richard Fish, an independent bridge management consultant at
, said: Although wood will rot and deteriorate, judging from the results of this bridge collapse, the material is not the main reason, and what is worth paying attention to is still design defects. At the end of September or early October, the two lanes will be restored to use, with a load limit of 18 tons. After ensuring load safety, the bridge will gradually be fully opened.

The restoration project of the Ohio and West Virginia Memorial Bridge in the United States was launched, and is expected to end in October 2023, costing US$50 million. The bridge is 516 meters long and spans the Paiva Canyon, located above the Rio Paiva River, 175 meters from the river surface.Designed by the Itecons Research Institute in Portugal and constructed by Conduril Engenharia, S.A., it costs about 2.3 million euros . Construction started in May 2018 and opened on April 29, 2021.
