He is not a photographer, but he is no less than any full-time photographer. His photography has a deep history that we have never seen before.

Zhou Haiying is taking photography
Zhou Haiying (1929-2011) is the only son of Lu Xun and Mr. Xu Guangping. He has loved photography since he was a child. In the past 70 years, he has used the lens to freeze private images, various markets, and urban and rural scenes, recorded important historical moments, and presented a broad social picture.

In the long river of history, Zhou Haiying's photography works are both "the marks of the earth's hoof" and "the star dust of memory".
Not to be a short-selling writer
On September 13, 1933, to celebrate his 53rd birthday, Mr. Lu Xun, Xu Guangping and Zhou Haiying went to take a family photo. The image of the boy's sea baby was forever frozen in that moment. Years later, this photo is still lingering in people's memory.

As the son of the famous writer Lu Xun, he lived in Lu Xun's "personnel field" all his life. Lu Xun left a will, "Don't be a short-selling writer or artist." Zhou Haiying said, "I grew up in an environment of 'personnel'. My father has been urging me and putting pressure on me at the same time."
Time flies, youth becomes an elder. Over the past seventy years, Zhou Haiying has taken more than 20,000 photos. Liu Tiesheng said: "After reading his photography collection, I was very surprised. He was not a photographer, but he was more amazing than any photographer in China. His photography has deep historical aspects that we have never seen before. It is very meaningful for people who know Lu Xun's contemporaries."

Zhou Haiying's works mainly include several parts. One is the life in Shanghai in the 1940s, including two aspects, the middle class and the life of Lilan; the other is the photos of democratic people from Hong Kong to the Northeast Liberated Area; the third is the life in Beijing in the 1950s, including a large number of photos of Fu Ren University and Peking University . These photos have considerable importance to the study of modern Chinese history.
The first batch of video materials of the Chinese CPPCC
Sun Yu introduced: "The photos of democratic figures secretly traveling to the Northeast Liberated Area to attend the first national CPPCC meeting. This is the first time that Chen Danqing was very surprised when he saw these photos because Zhou Haiying accidentally recorded the development process of Chinese history." In the exhibition, this part of the topic also attracted particular attention from the audience.

Since August 1948, inspired by the victory of the Chinese revolution, leaders of democratic parties and non-party democrats far away in Hong Kong have embarked on the journey to the liberated areas in order to prepare for the new CPPCC and discuss the plan for the founding of the country. Zhou Haiying recalled: "I was nineteen years old at that time. I went north to the liberated area with the idea of saving the country scientifically."

At the end of November of that year, Zhou Haiying and his mother Xu Guangping took the "Central China Ship" with the Portuguese flag flying away from Hong Kong to the north. The same boat also includes well-known people such as Guo Moruo , Ma Xulun, Chen Qiyou, Sha Qianli, Xu Baoju, Hou Wailu , Jian Bozan , Feng Yufang and other famous people.

Before leaving Hong Kong, Zhou Haiying discussed with her mother about buying winter clothes, and finally decided to go to the cheap freakish market to buy second-hand clothes. In this way, Zhou Haiying saved more than 800 Hong Kong dollars. So, he, who loved photography, immediately compared the stores, bought a low-priced "Lu Lai" camera, and bought more than 20 films.

, arrived in the Northeast Liberated Area safely and unobtrusively. This time, the northbound trip was completely confidential, so it was impossible for a photojournalist to follow and report it. These out-of-print photos taken by Zhou Haiying undoubtedly make up for the most important image gap in modern Chinese history.
full-time photography, former dream
Zhou Haiying insists on his own view on photography. He said: "I think the popular saying of 'playing with photos' is wrong. Photography is an art and also a creation. I once thought of being a full-time photographer, but in the end I worked in a job that had nothing to do with photography. I like to capture and record the historical moments I experienced with a camera. It is my idea and wish."

, Zhou Haiying introduced: "My parents are very relaxed to me and do not think you should learn or do what you should do." Thanks to family support, Zhou Haiying was able to continuously expand her knowledge and interests. He studied accounting, attended radio night school, studied in the Department of Social Sciences of Fu Jen University, and later transferred to the Department of Physics of Peking University, and finally chose the technology profession.

Mr. Zhou Haiying's photography life and his photography works, which was surprising with a strong impact! He took many photos that photographers did not take, without deliberateness or artificiality. The sensitivity and vitality reflected in the images reflect the social ecology of that era and the living environment of people, and is an excellent presentation of photography culture in modern Chinese history.
