It is common for you to drink a drink after get off work and go home with a little drunkenness in Japan, but in Okinawa, the island south of Japan's main island, the phenomenon of "sleeping on the road" caused by drinking really gives the government a headache.
According to the British " Guardian " report on the 19th, the police in Japan Okinawa Prefecture last year found 7,221 cases of people sleeping on the road. In most cases, people who sleep on the road will be woken up and not injured; but in 16 cases, people were injured, and 3 of them died. The police found that among the people who were sleeping soundly on the road, they took off their underwear and looked drunk and fell asleep as if they were home.
Locals said that the bad habit of sleeping directly on the road after drinking at night has always existed in Okinawa. On the one hand, because the climate in Okinawa is warm, it doesn’t feel cold when sleeping on the road; on the other hand, Okinawans like to drink local specialty spirits "soaked wine". The police have imposed a fine of up to 50,000 yen (about 3,280 yuan), but the results are minimal. Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, Okinawa has taken measures to restrict nightlife, but in the first half of this year, the police still found 2,702 cases of drunk people sleeping on the road, which is basically the same as the same period last year.
