Recently, the Shanggao Law Enforcement Squadron of the Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau of Taishan District received a case of selling national key protected wild animals handed over by the Urban and Suburban Branch of the Tai'an Forest Public Security Bureau.
After investigation, the parties confessed to the illegal facts of purchasing, raising and selling of green iè lizards (animals in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). Their behavior violates Article 27 of the Wild Animal Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and prohibits the sale, purchase and use of national key protected wild animals and their products.
Through careful investigation and evidence collection of the case, and according to the appraisal results of the Judicial Appraisal Center, the economic value of the green iguana involved is 1,500 yuan. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Wildlife Protection Law of the People's Republic of China", the Shanggao Law Enforcement Squadron imposed an administrative penalty of RMB 4,500 on the parties involved. At present, the green iguana has been handed over to Tai'an Flower Sea Zoo Co., Ltd. for feeding.
Law enforcement officers hereby remind the general public that according to the relevant provisions of the "Wild Animal Protection Law of the People's Republic of China", no one is allowed to raise and sell wild animals listed in the first- and second-level protected animals at will. The best living environment for wild animals is nature, and do not violate the law because of personal hobbies.
