Introduction:
In the winter of 1945, a sudden blizzard hit the land of central China.
in the upper reaches of Wuhan, the mountains and rivers and valleys are covered with snow. From time to time, the sound of branches being crushed by snow sounded in the mountains and forests, and a layer of snow mist was raised. Looking around, there were no traces of birds and beasts.
is in this quiet world, a team of ragged clothes is facing a great crisis. The general who commanded this team was a tall and thin bearded man. When he spoke, a Xiangyin sound came from his lips and teeth, with the momentum of thousands of troops.
"The food must be obtained as soon as possible!" He said to the man holding a briefcase in front, and this man was Li Shi, a commissioner of the Hubei-North Administrative Office of the Communist Party of China.
"If we were in Nanniwan, we had no food, we could only borrow it here. Who should we lend it to? You are a local, I believe you will think of a solution. How much is appropriate to borrow it? I think it's almost enough to borrow 1,000 dan..."
To be honest, the general was forced to give such an order.
No one knows better than him that all cities around are occupied by the Kuomintang army. Not to mention borrowing grain, they can’t buy food even if they spend money.
As for the poor grain in the hands of farmers, they can’t even fill the family’s stomachs, so how can there be surplus grain to borrow? If the team hadn't had the food out of the market soon, he wouldn't have issued such an inhuman order.
Two days later, an unexpected miracle happened - Li Shi borrowed 1,000 dan of grain per kilogram, and the borrower even confiscated the IOU!
10 years later, the general became the founding general of the Republic of China, and he was the famous General Wang Zhen!
Until 1991, a special letter revealed this dusty past, and the story behind 1,000 dan of grain spread out.
was born in Jinggangshan , and grew up in Nanniwan
Wang Zhen's hometown is Liuyang, Hunan. At the age of 13, Wang Zhen, who was wandering on the streets of Changsha, was accidentally noticed by the deputy stationmaster of Changsha Railway Station and worked as a handyman on the railway.
In 1923, after the Beijing-Han Railway Strike broke out, Wang Zhen, who had been jealous of evil since childhood, became the captain of the railway workers' picket team. After the failure of the Great Revolution , Wang Zhen moved against the wind and resolutely joined the Communist Party of China.
What followed was that his grandfather was tortured to death by the reactionary " Qingxiangtuan ", and his two sisters starved to death one after another, while his honest father hid in the deep mountains and forests.
, full of courage, Wang Zhen was not scared. He forced a guerrilla team to pull up a bare-handed team. In the subsequent battle, the guerrilla team was constantly baptized and continued to grow.

went from guerrilla leader to regiment political commissar, then to division political commissar, military political commissar, and served as Red Sixth Corps political commissar, and later became one of the main founders of Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet Area .
After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army, adapted from the Red Sixth Corps, was given the heavy burden of defending the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region and defending the Party Central Committee, while Wang Zhen served as the brigade commander and political commissar of the 359th Brigade.
The Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region itself has barren land, but it has to bear the lives of more than 1 million ordinary people, cadres, soldiers and students. At the same time, it also has to deal with the anti-communist "friction" of Chiang Kai-shek's group and the military and economic blockade. The difficulties can be imagined.
Fortunately, the Chinese Communists were never intimidated by difficulties and hardships. Wang Zhen led the 359th Brigade to take the lead in firing the first shot of self-rescue in the border area production.
In March 1941, the land of northern Shaanxi was still in a state of cold spring. In the bitter biting cold wind, the 359th Brigade held a oath-taking meeting to march into Nanniwan.Wang Zhen led all the soldiers to raise their heads and declared war on Nanniwan, which was full of thorns and weeds!
Nanniwan was originally named "Lanniwan". As the name suggests, it can be seen how harsh the environment is.
But for Wang Zhen, who has always been in charge and puts life and death aside, there is never the word "fear" in his dictionary. He believed that with his own hands, everything could be created.
If you don’t live in, you can make your own cave; if you don’t have food, you can make your own firewood and charcoal to exchange for food; if you don’t have a hoe, you can make your own waste shrapnel.
What should I do if I worry about land reclamation and farming affect my combat effectiveness? When the slack season comes, large-scale military training activities are carried out. The soldiers' military capabilities are not only not abandoned, but are known.
When working, the gun is placed on the ground and whenever there is any situation, it will be put into battle.
A year later, a harvest scene of "crops everywhere, cattle and sheep everywhere" unfolded in Nanniwan, and the song "Nanniwan" made Wang Zhen listen to it for a lifetime and be proud of it for the rest of his life.
From then on, Chairman Mao firmly believed that no matter how great the difficulties were left to Wang Zhen, there would be nothing that could not be done.
1944, when the Anti-Japanese War had already seen the dawn of victory, the Party Central Committee was preparing to send a group of soldiers to form a southward detachment to establish a new anti-Japanese base in South China, the first thing that came to mind was Wang Zhen.
Go south and north, landlords borrowed food to overcome difficulties
Wang Zhen did not expect that this time going south would be a test of a life-and-death death.
Although Chairman Mao had repeatedly emphasized before departure that he had to overcome all kinds of unexpected difficulties, the difficulties he encountered later were far greater than expected.
For Chiang Kai-shek's group, no matter how much the Communist army makes trouble behind enemy lines or grows, it can only stare at me. Now, this "bold" team dares to enter its hinterland, which is really delivered to the door.
In November 1944, the South Detachment set out from Yan'an, crossed the Yellow River, crossed the Central Plains, crossed the Yangtze River, and arrived in Hunan, and was unstoppable. From
to August of the following year, news of Japan surrendering to came, and the soldiers of the south detachment were all immersed in great joy.
However, the time left for them to enjoy joy is short, and with it, it is very bad news. The Kuomintang army freed up by
is concentrating several times of its strength, intending to eat up the southward detachment in one fell swoop, and then eliminate all the Communist Party’s military forces in the Central Plains.
Wang Zhen's personality seems rough and generous, but in fact he is rough and delicate, brave and resourceful.
Wang Zhen saw that things were not done. In order to avoid getting into the civil war too early, after asking Chairman Mao and the Party Central Committee, he resolutely led his troops to turn around and return.
But the Kuomintang would not "gift" the southward detachment to return north. They surrounded and blocked the enemy. Wang Zhen led his troops to fight bloody battles until the beginning of winter. At this time, an even more unfortunate news came - the team was out of food!
Next, the scene at the beginning of this article happened.
So, where did Li Shi borrow 1,000 dan of grain? Wang Zhen did not ask at the time, nor did Li Shi say it.
It was not until 1991 that Wang Zhen, who had served as Vice President of the State, received a special letter that revealed the answer.
It turns out that there is a Liao family in Sui County, who is very influential and wealthy in the local area.
Liao family is both a big landlord and a capitalist. Since the victory of the Chinese revolution, many people seem to have the impression that
occasionally has a landlord, capitalist and the word "enlightenment" that has become a rare thing.
Liao family is undoubtedly an enlightened landlord. They have national justice and sometimes even privately sponsor the local Communist Party. Therefore, Li Shi decided to go to the Liao family, but it was not entirely a chance.
When Li Shi visited, the family was not at home, and only the old lady of the Liao family happened to be there. The old lady Mao is over 90 years old, but she is strong in her body, clear in thinking, clear in the world, and speaks simply.
Hearing Li Shi's purpose, she said directly:
"Although I am a slack woman, I can still understand many things clearly. We must not forget our roots. Although our Liao family is now poor, we are poor families, and we know the difficulties of living in the lives of the people."
"Your Communist Party serves the people. Now that we are facing difficulties, we are of course obliged. How much food do you need? Just count it. Our Liao family must do our best."
When Li Shi heard this, he was hanging. He completely let go of his heart, and he said:
"The old lady understands the righteousness, and we Communists will not give it in vain. 1,000 dan of grain, I will first write you an IOU, and wait until the revolution is victorious before returning it."
Mao said:
"There is no need for an IOU. Our Liao family does not need this 1,000 dan of grain, and we just hope that the revolution will win as soon as possible."
A special letter, unraveling a historical grudge,
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Liao Fuchu returned to his hometown with confidence, formed a mining police brigade, and served as the captain of the brigade.
At the same time, Liao Fuchu also served as the county senator and president of the county chamber of commerce.
Unfortunately, Liao Fuchu's glory did not last long. After the outbreak of the War of Liberation, the Liao family's industry became increasingly difficult under the Kuomintang's clever tricks. As a result, the mine police brigade was also controlled by the Kuomintang and became a counter-revolutionary thug.
Although Liao Fuchu was no longer in charge at this time, after liberation, the account was still settled on him.
At the beginning of liberation, the situation faced by New China was very complicated:
The remnants of the Kuomintang had not been cleared yet, and a large number of lurking spies were waiting for an opportunity to destroy it. Chiang Kai-shek kept clamoring for counterattack in Taiwan, and US imperial ignited war on the Korean Peninsula again.
A stormy suppression of counter-revolutionary movement was launched on a large scale across the country.
Under such an era, Liao Fuchu, who had a "old historical account", stayed in prison for decades. It was not until 1990 that Liao Fuchu was released from prison. After being released from prison, Liao Fuchu has been trying to find a way to make trouble, but his complaints have been rejected again and again. After hitting walls one after another, Liao Fuchu's heart was filled with loss and depression.
He couldn't let go of the matter of being arrested and imprisoned that year. If this knot is untied for a day, he would feel uneasy all day long.
. It happened that day, when Liao Fuchu was reading a magazine, it seemed like a flash of lightning broke through the night. He actually saw an article about the 359th Brigade borrowing grain from the Liao family back then! Let’s look at the signature of the article again—“Li Shi’s oral statement, compiled by Ma Xiliang.”
, and Li Shi was the commissioner of the North Hubei Administrative Office of the Communist Party of China and the manager who borrowed grain from the Liao family back then.
, Liao Fuchu, who was very happy, put down the magazine and began to inquire about Li Shi from multiple sources. Later I found out that Li Shi had passed away.
Liao Fuchu was not giving up. He placed his only hope in the future on Ma Xiliang, the compiler of that article.
Liao Fuchu wrote a letter to Ma Xiliang with the idea of giving it a try, which detailed the story of Li Shi borrowing grain from their family on behalf of the 359th Brigade and his arrest and jail.
A warm-hearted Ma Xiliang not only immediately wrote a letter to Wang Zhen, but also rushed to Wuhan to find Liao Fuchu, and thanked them in person for their timely help to the Chinese revolution.
When I saw with my own eyes that the Liao family was barely barred and life was extremely difficult, Ma Xiliang couldn't help but feel mixed feelings.
Ma Xiliang knew that General Wang Zhen is now the vice president of the country and is busy with all kinds of things. I don’t know when his letter will be in his hands;
Even if one day comes to Wang Zhen’s hands, I don’t know any of the final result will come.
So, in the following days, Ma Xiliang paid out of his own pocket every month, sometimes even picked up garbage and sold it, and then gave the Liao family some help within his ability in the name of the civil affairs department’s relief funds.
And Ma Xiliang's own family is not easy. His wife has been bedridden for many years. The life of the family of three generations is mainly supported by his salary. Even the children often complain that he is too stingy.
Even so, he still sent 100 yuan of "help" to the Liao family on time every month. If he was too short of money in a month, he would go to a local factory to pick up garbage and sell it, try every means to raise 100 yuan, and then send it to Liao Fuchu.
And all this Ma Xiliang did, Liao Fuchu has been kept in the dark.
In 1991, Wang Zhen received a letter from Ma Xiliang, and asked: Do you still remember the Liao family landlords supporting 1,000 dan of food for the 359th Brigade.
At this time, Wang Zhen couldn't help but recall the difficult years when broke through , recalling the snowy winter in 1945, recalling the despair of thousands of comrades when they were out of food and the joy of receiving 1,000 dans of food from their families...
immediately issued a letter:
The Liao family borrowed 1,000 dans of food for the 359th Brigade that year, and the Liao family had made contributions to the Chinese revolution.
Wang Zhen also responded to the arrest and imprisonment of Liao Fuchu that year:
We Communists are historical materialist , and we must be realistic. What mistakes did Liao Fuchu make back then and what nature are these mistakes? I hope to start from the perspective of seeking truth from facts and solve the problems of the Liao family.
Under Wang Zhen's personal care, Liao Fuchu's appeal journey finally waited for a new result: his reputation was restored and he also received certain economic compensation...
Liao Fuchu was undoubtedly lucky. He met the kind-hearted Ma Xiliang and Wang Zhen who sought truth from facts.
What’s more fortunate is that my grandmother Mao planted good roots for him and eventually produced good results in him.
But do good things and don’t ask about the future, you can be invincible in any major social change!
