On May 25, 1942, the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army was surrounded by heavy troops in Liao County, Shanxi (after Zuo Quan died in his country, it was changed to Zuo Quan County). At that time, the encircled were also thousands of non-armed personnel who had no battlefield experience in the organization of Northern Bureau, Northern Bureau Party School, Xinhua News Agency and other units, and it was extremely difficult to break through.

As a senior general of the Eighth Route Army, Zuo Quan gave up his personal opportunity to break through, sacrificed his life for justice, took the initiative to undertake the task of "cutting the rear" and personally directed the breakthrough battle.
