Sun Qian, born on April 4, 1920, his original name is Sun Huaiqian , is from Nan'an Village, Wenshui County, Shanxi Province. Because Sun Qian was poor when he was young, he only attended junior primary school for 4 years.

1937, Sun Qian joined the Shanxi Youth Anti-Japanese Death Squad. In 1938, he joined the Party at the Army Forward Drama Club. In 1937, he joined the Youth Anti-Japanese Death Squad. In 1938, he was transferred to the Yellow River Drama Club to carry out anti-Japanese propaganda work. In 1939, while studying at the Southeast Jin Dynasty Art School, he joined the Communist Party of China. In December of the same year, in the " Western Shanxi Incident ", the army was transferred from Southwest Shanxi to Northwest Shanxi area.

1940, Sun Qian went to Yan'an with the Opera Club, and studied in the Art Cadre Training Class of the Affiliated Forces of Luxun Academy of Art and the Art School of the Army.

In May 1942, after Mao Zedong delivered a "Speech at the Yan'an Literature and Art Forum", Sun Qian ended two years of study in the military art cadre training class attached to the Yan'an Luxun Academy of Art. According to the organizational arrangements, he returned to , the anti-Japanese base in northwest Shanxi, , and transferred to the Jinsui Border Region Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

During this period, Sun Qian wrote a short story "This is how we return to the team" based on what he had personally experienced during the anti-"sweeping" in 1940, and published it in the supplement of the "Liberation Daily" in Yan'an on August 5, 1943. The official publication of this novel became a preliminary gain in Sun Qian's practice of the spirit of "speech", and inspired him to use his pen in his hand to reflect the passion and confidence in the hot struggle of the border areas in the War of Resistance. From then on, he created a large number of short stories, essays, close-ups and short poems, published them in the Anti-Japanese War Daily, becoming one of the most published activists in the Anti-Japanese War Daily.

In the autumn of 1943, Sun Qian was transferred to the position of Minister of Culture of the Third District of Baode County, and went to the grassroots to mobilize the masses to carry out "rental reduction and interest reduction", collect grain, recruit soldiers, and carry out the anti-"mopping up" struggle. At the same time, we participated in the rectification movement. In 1944, he was transferred to work at the "July Drama Club". 1945, Sun Qian was the creative section chief of the Jinsui Federation of Literary and Art Circles. In spring, he fought with militias in Ningwu County . He wrote "Military Painter Lu Erru" for the Anti-Japanese War Daily, and wrote "Monk Quan Private Primary School" and "How Ding Guoliang Do Ma Paoquan Primary School" with Zhou Wenbin. The Yangko opera "I'm the Right" created was published in the June Anti-Japanese War Daily. He also co-wrote "Zhao Yongzhou and Ningjing People's Hospital" and "Doctors of the People" with Yaxin and Chen Yuefeng. After the Japanese invaders surrendered, they carried out "anti-traitors and anti-dominance" work in Jinzhong area, and jointly wrote a communication with Wu Gang "Pingchuan News". In May 1946, Sun Qian published the short story "The Qualifications" in the Anti-Japanese War Daily. On July 1, 1946, the Anti-Japanese War Daily was renamed Jinsui Daily. The "Military Song" and "The Land is Back" created by Sun Qian during the land reform in Xingang area were published in the Jinsui Daily between July and August.At the same time, the short stories "Victory Night" and "Ten Acres of Land in the East of the Village" created by Sun Qian have been published in other publications such as "People's Times".

In 1947, Sun Qian was sent to the newly established Northeast Film Studio as the screenwriter. In 1949, he was transferred to the Creation Studio of the Central Film Bureau. Gradually grew into a people's writer and film screenwriter who is well-known in the film and literature world.

After the founding of New China, Sun Qian served as the director of the National Writers Association and Film Association, vice chairman of the Shanxi Federation of Literary and Art Circles, chairman of the Shanxi Film Association, and vice chairman of the Shanxi Writers Association.

In May 1992, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government awarded Sun Qian the "People's Writer" Award. In 1993, Sun Qian enjoyed special government allowances issued by the State Council.

On March 5, 1996, Sun Qian died of illness at the age of 76.
