21st Century Business Herald reporter Peng Qiang Beijing report
Recently, during the final of the 2022 ABB Electrical Innovation Challenge and the announcement of the Innovation Nanshan "Entrepreneurship Star" competition, 21st Century Business Herald reporter interviewed Zhao Yongzhan, president of ABB Electric China. Zhao Yongzhan expressed his views on issues such as dual carbon opportunities, ABB's development in Shenzhen and business in the Chinese market.
ABB and Shenzhen are becoming more closely connected
"Entrepreneurship Star" competition is a demonstration activity of innovation and innovation based in Nanshan and facing the whole country. It has been 15 years since it was held in 2008, and more than 20,000 projects have been registered for the competition. A number of excellent technology companies including DJI Innovation , Guangfeng Optoelectronics and Pudu Technology have been discovered.
ABB said that the competition has cooperated with ABB for two consecutive years, aiming to promote the integrated development of large, medium and small enterprises, help small and medium-sized enterprises to connect with high-end industrial resources, and link with global cutting-edge technologies.

Zhao Yongzhan said that the three tracks of smart buildings, smart power and distribution system in this competition are more closely integrated with the dual carbon target, and are also the core area of ABB. By holding a competition, ABB will cooperate in different forms with the winning or participating companies, and both ABB and participating companies can gain more potential opportunities.
ABB is a global leader in the field of power and automation technology. It has a history of more than 130 years. Its products cover electrical, robotics, automation, motion control products and solutions, etc. It operates in more than 100 countries and regions around the world, with more than 100,000 employees. ABB operates 27 local businesses in China and has approximately 15,000 employees.
Shenzhen occupies an important position in ABB Electric's business layout. In recent years, the cooperation between the two sides has become increasingly closer. In 2015, ABB and Shenzhen signed an framework agreement , establishing in-depth cooperation between the two parties in the fields of new energy, power protection and green transportation; in December 2017, ABB's first global power electronics research and development center for solar energy and electric vehicle charging facilities, ABB New Energy Technology Center, officially settled in Shenzhen.
In November 2019, ABB Open Innovation Center settled in Nanshan; in August 2022, ABB Electric Transportation China Headquarters officially settled in Nanshan District, Shenzhen and delivered the first ABB 480KW high-power liquid-cooled supercharge system in China. According to ABB, the company's electrical products and solutions have been applied in key projects such as Shenzhen Metro , Shenzhen Airport, BYD Yunba Cloud Rail and other key projects.
Zhao Yongzhan said that Shenzhen is not only an economic zone but also an innovation highland, but also has abundant talent resources. The supporting enterprises and related industrial chains are also relatively complete. Shenzhen City, including the Nanshan District Government, can also provide more support in local supporting policies and the incubation of start-up enterprises.
Dual carbon brings industrial opportunities
The global dual carbon tide is bringing new challenges to many industries, which also contains a lot of opportunities.
Zhao Yongzhan said that whether it is energy transformation, efficiency improvement or electrification efficiency improvement, dual carbon means huge development opportunities and potential. The core of dual carbon is to use the above technologies to achieve the best balance between social economic development and energy demand, and use less energy to do more things. For example, the domestic new energy vehicle industry has achieved unexpected development in the past two years, and the corresponding infrastructure, charging piles and other supporting facilities must also develop in a coordinated manner, which means more opportunities for ABB.
According to ABB's previous goals, ABB will strive to achieve its own carbon neutrality operating by 2030. At the same time, ABB promises that by 2030, ABB's products and technologies will help global customers reduce carbon emissions by 100 million tons per year.
Zhao Yongzhan introduced that at present, ABB is committed to accelerating the realization of its own carbon neutrality goal. In the past two years, Beijing ABB Switch Co., Ltd. and Xiamen ABB Switch Co., Ltd. have both won the title of national "Green Factory". So far, ABB Electric has three factories in China that have entered the green manufacturing list.
In the past two years, in the face of drastic changes in the global situation and the impact of changes in the commodity market on the entire industrial chain, the production and operation of many enterprises have also been greatly affected. ABB still achieved stable performance growth in the changing market situation.
On October 20, ABB released results in Zurich, Switzerland, with orders in the third quarter of US$8.2 billion, and increased by 54% year-on-year; sales revenue was US$7.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5%; operating interest and tax amortization profit was US$1.231 billion, and a profit margin was 16.6%.
ABB Group CEO Luo Biang previously said that there has been no major changes in the demand for potential customers, and the profit target for 2023 is likely to be achieved one year ahead of schedule.
Speaking of the Chinese market, Zhao Yongzhan said that China is ABB's second largest market in the world. ABB's overall development in the Chinese market is still very stable and has made a lot of good progress.
"In the years of development and accumulation of the Chinese market, ABB's local service capacity and production capacity in the Chinese market have been greatly improved and consolidated, and we are more confident in the future in the Chinese market." Zhao Yongzhan said.
