In Tang Dynasty , there were more than one monks who claimed to be Huaisu , so it is inevitable that the phenomenon of confusing different Huaisu is confusing each other. How many Huaisu were there in the Tang Dynasty? In the past, the academic community believed that there were two. However, recently some scholars have written articles that believed that there were three Huaisu in the Tang Dynasty, and they were all monks.
The first Huaisu was a disciple of Xuanzang, a well-known figure in the Buddhist community in the Tang Dynasty. He is a 4-member from Nanyang, with a common surname Fan, and conducts Buddhist activities in Jingzhao . The years of birth and death were from 624 to 697 AD, and he was 74 years old.
The second Huaisu was a calligrapher in the Zhenyuan period, from Changsha, with a common surname Qian. The birth and death years were about 737-800 AD, and he was 63 years old.
"Complete Tang Poems", " Complete Tang Text ", "Book History Meeting" and many other works confuse these two Huaisu. For example, the "Huaisu" article of the revised version of " Ciyuan " says that Huaisu is a monk of the Tang Dynasty and a disciple of Xuanzang. His name is Zangzhen, his common surname is Qian, and he moved to Jingzhao. And these two people are actually nearly a hundred years apart.

The third Huaisu is very similar to Xuanzang's disciple Huaisu. For example, both of them are common surname Fan, and they are all engaged in Buddhist activities in Jingzhao.
The information about him was found from the bet of the Tang Cui Rong "The Tang Xi Chongfu Temple Lawyer Stele" written by Chen Sizan of the Song Dynasty (This stele is also recorded in the 928th day of the famous epigrapher of the Song Dynasty). This note says: "Written by Cui Rong, the son of the Tang Dynasty, and the book of the monk Xingdunji of Anguo Temple. Huaisu, a monk from Chongfu Temple in Xi, has a secular surname Fan, and has 4 people in Chang'an. The monument was erected in February of the sixth year of Kaiyuan ("Collection of Ancient Collections").

The reason why these two Huaisu, whose surname is Fan, is not the same, is the following two reasons. First, "Hidden Monks of Song " calls Xuanzang's disciple Huaisu the "Huaisu in Hengji Temple in the capital", so this Huaisu is mainly abbot of Hengji Temple in the capital. The stele written by Cui Rong in "Bao Ke Congbian" quotes the "Collection of Ancient Records" as "The Lawyer of Huaisu of Bing Chongfu Temple". The two monks' abbots are different. Secondly, Xuanzang's disciple Huaisu died in the second year of Wansui Tongtian (697), and the "Xi Chongfu Temple Lawyer Stele" was erected in the first year of Kaiyuan (717). The time when this monument was erected was 21 years apart from the year of death of Xuanzang's disciple Huaisu. Cui Rong wrote this monument, which can be regarded as raising a monument for another Huaisu.
The famous Qing Dynasty historian Zhao Yi, Volume 16 of "Notes on Twenty-Two Histories", says: "The New Book of Tang lacks a high-level Xuanzang, and a vicious blessing Huaisu." Who is this vicious blessing Huaisu? Wu Zetian once had a close relationship with a monk Huaisu. This monk is good at nightmare curse. See " Taiping Guangji " Volume 299 "Wei Andao". "Hikongfu Monks" does not record the "evil blessing" of Xuanzang's disciple Huaisu. Maybe Huaisu, a monk from Xi Chongfu Temple, is an evil blessing person. If this statement is true, then Huaisu has three in the Tang Dynasty; if it is not true, then Huaisu has as many as four.

This article mainly tells the story of Master Xuanzang's disciple Huaisu, Hengji Temple in Tang Dynasty,
Shi Huaisu, whose common surname is Fan, and his ancestral home is Nanyang (now Nanyang City, Henan Province). His great-grandfather was named Yue. During the reign of Emperor Gaozong, he was selected as the magistrate of Quwo County, Jiangzhou. His grandfather was named Hui. He was once the magistrate of Guangwu County, Tingzhou. His father was named Qiang. He was appointed as the chief of the Left Guard. He was from Jingzhao (i.e. Chang'an). My mother, Li, was shocked by Mengyunlei, and became pregnant. On the day of his birth, the room was filled with divine light. Those who saw it asked for a divine divination and said, "This son's appearance is extremely solemn, and he will become a king's teacher in the future." He was very smart and magnificent when he was young. Those who knew it said, "Learning will be successful, and his talent will be extraordinary." After he was a little older, he heard and recited it with a sound of success. When he was ten years old, he suddenly expressed his intention to become a monk, but he was blocked by his two relatives and failed to fulfill his wish.
In the 19th year of Zhenguan, Master Xuanzang had just returned from India and vowed to be his teacher. So I looked for classics and read everything. After receiving the full precepts, specialize in the law department. At that time, there was a lawyer from Fali in Yejun. He was a famous monk, a master of five laws, and scholars from all over the world who learned from it. The lawyer wrote ten volumes of annotations and comments, and his views were quite precise. When he saw Huaisu, after talking, he expected that he would become a law craftsman in the future. After Huaisu focused on Buddhist scriptures, she found that there were many errors in the Tripitaka, so she sighed, "The translations and annotations of the ancients have not been perfect." In the first year of Xianheng (670 AD), she decided to write the "Kai Si Fen Laws". In the third year of Zhishangyuan (676 AD), she returned to Beijing and was ordered to live in Taiyuan Temple to listen to lawyer Daocheng's lecture on the law. During this period, she continued to compile and compile. By the first year of Yongchun, ten volumes were compiled, and the words of one's own people became unique. He also pointed out that about six of them were wrong. There were hundreds of new meanings published by Huaisu, which were later widely circulated and had a great influence.
Later, he wrote fifteen volumes of "Commentary on Abhidharmakosha", two volumes of "Commentary on the Path of the Abhidharma", three volumes of "Commentary on the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Path of the Abhidharma of the Abhidharma of the Four-part Monk and Nuns, and one volume each. He recites thirty volumes of " Diamond Sutra " every day, talks about "The Great Law" and commentary more than fifty times, and countless other calligraphy and scriptures. Later, he suddenly showed his illness, but his energy was still very strong. He said to Xiu Zhang, "I have too many laws and practices, and I am about to die." At that time, the joy of heaven in the sky was bright, and he died suddenly, his life was seventy-four, and Dharma La 53. On the day of the burial, wild geese roamed around the tower and did not disperse that night.

Written by Huaisu, the saphado sect (i.e. says everything sect ). The commentary that comes out is called the new chapter. During the Kaiyuan period, the lawyer from Songshanbin wrote the "Jiangzong Ji" and explained that it was an old republic compared to the Fa Li. This system is called the East and West Talu School due to the different locations of the practice.
During the great years, Prime Minister Guoyuan submitted a memorial to build a precept at Baoyuan Temple in Chengdu, spread a new memorial, and pay a salary to copy forty new memorials and thirty new memorials and the Lotus Sutra, which were passed down by Guangyi, Baoyuan Temple. Later, Duke Yuan ordered Duke Rujing to write a biography for Huaisu, and Nankang Weifu built a precepts and taught Vini's new memorials. All those who practiced it were published in the above. His words are graceful and beautiful, and are praised by people in , Shu .
