Legend Hexi water mill and grinding surface were introduced to Hexi Corridor from the Central Plains.

The legend of Liu Sake, a famous Hexi monk who is comparable to Sakyamuni in the murals of Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, is named Shi Huida.

Master Huida was named Liu Sake before he became a monk. His family was very wealthy. In order to maintain a luxurious life, Liu Sake mainly relied on collecting land rent. When he was a child, Liu Sake did not like to study and was particularly cruel. Once, when Liu Sake collected land rent, he collected all the grain from a hired farmer, causing the five hired farmer family to starve to death in a broken house, which aroused the anger of the local people and the people burned the granary of Liu Sake's family.

After Liu Sake became a monk, his Dharma name Huida did not devote himself to practicing, but was still worried about the people burning his granary.

Once Master Huida entered Yunzhuang Temple drunk and obsessed with Master Huineng .

I practiced Zen with Master Huineng . Master Huida thought for a long time and said unconvincedly: "The hired farmer owes me rent. What's wrong with me collecting the land rent?"

Master Huineng gently grabbed a handful of sand on the ground, held it in his hand, and then asked Master Huida: "How many grains of sand are there in my hand?"

Master Huida asked Master Huineng back and said: "Do you know how many grains of sand are there in your hand?"

Master Huineng shook his head gently and said, "Some things are something that our eyes cannot do, we can only experience with our heart." After saying that, Master Huineng gently sprinkled the sand in his hand into the bowl where Master Huida drank water, and the water in the bowl immediately became turbid.

Master Huineng only said one sentence: "The water is dirty." Then he closed his eyes and calmed down.

Master Huida was incredible and was very angry. Because Yunzhuang Temple is a Buddhist state, Master Huineng is also his master, and his anger is not easy to occur. Just as Master Huida was about to leave, he heard Master Huineng say: "Your greed is hidden in your heart in countless grains of sand. Our eyes cannot see it. What you do seems reasonable, but for Liu Sake, who was once a bully like you, has piled up grains into mountains. Liu Sake doesn't even give the hired workers a little bit of grain to maintain their survival. He only wants your enjoyment and does not care about the life and death of the hired workers. Isn't it harmed by greed?"

"In the world, life is endless. I will exchange the entire Yunzhuang Temple for your heart and liver, will you change it?" Master Huineng said slowly.

There are many aspects of life, and there are good and evil in nature. Some things seem to be done reasonably, but they are actually unreasonable. Some things seem to be done unreasonably, but they are actually reasonable.

There is no conclusion on good or evil, it depends on the size of your inner desire.

Huineng turned and pointed to the bowl with sand and said, "Look, the water is clear. As long as your mind is quiet, greed will sink under the bowl."

Master Huineng folded the water with sand into another bowl, then poured the turbid water at the bottom of the bowl out of the door, picked up the remaining half of the bowl and drank it all. Then he said, "A person does something bad and cannot figure it out, which means he is ashamed."

After saying that, Master Huineng went out, and Master Huida followed closely behind and saw a small tree next to him, with two birds on the branch. One bird was holding a small insect in his mouth, and he was leisurely feeding the small insect to another bird on the tree.

Master Huineng said: "We should be like that little bird, not moved by the environment, and do not be greedy in summer, and do not be discouraged in winter.

Look at that little bird, giving is the happiest."

Master Huida said: "The greatness of the universe and the profound truths are really wonderful. Life is like this little bird, and only giving is the happiest. A person's good and evil lies in the size of your inner greed."

Master Huida understood the truth that Master Huineng said, and then said to Master Huineng: "Thank you, Master, I want to be like this little bird and be a donor."

Later, Huida changed to Shu Huida and became a famous monk. Teaching Buddhism in Hexi is deeply loved by the people of Hexi.
