For this reason, the Buddha even set the "No money precept", which means that monks must not touch money with their hands. Except for food, medicine, clothes, and bedding that are given by others, other things that are basically alive, they cannot accept it, let alone money.

Everyone knows that Buddhists all require "letting away from desire", that is, leaving the bonds of various desires, so that their hearts are not polluted by the secular six dusts . The first thing to abandon here is the greed for money.

For this Buddha even set the "Don't keep the money precept", which means that monks must never touch money with their hands. Except for food, medicine, clothes, and bedding that are given by others, other things that are basically alive, they cannot accept it, let alone money.

In the era when the Buddha was, money was useless for monks. It would only increase their desires and deepen their karma. For example, Buddha, Mahakasyapa, Maudgalyayana , Sariputra, Subhuti , Ananda , etc. were all wealthy, but for the sake of practice, they would give up those external wealth without any attachment, which is a clear proof.

But everyone doesn’t know that people in Buddhism are also “greedy for money”, but what they are greedy for is not the secular wealth, but is called “ Seven Holy Wealth ”.

In Ksitigarbha Original Vow Sutra, there is a Bodhisattva named "Caishou". His previous life was the King of Non-toxic Ghosts, and he helped Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva previous life Brahman woman, telling her whereabouts of her mother.

This 年后官网文官文 practices the "Seven Holy Wealth" method, namely faith, precepts, shame, shame, hearing, giving up, and wisdom. Monks are very happy about these.

If we secular people like to say congratulations on getting rich when we meet during festivals, then Buddhist disciples can use this "Seven Holy Wealth" as congratulations. I hope everyone can make more money, get rid of suffering and gain happiness, and become extraordinary and saints.

So what are these seven kinds of holy wealth? Let’s introduce them one by one.

First wealth: Faithfulness--Real faith in

Faith is the starting point of learning Buddhism and the source of practice. The Huayan Sutra of Buddhism’s first great sutra said that faith is the source of merit and virtue, and cultivates all good roots.

This sentence tells us that faith is the source of practice and the mother of merit. All good roots are also initiated by righteous faith.

What we often call "faith", no matter which type, it starts with "faith". If you don't believe it at all, there is no way to talk about everything in the future, because you are simply an outsider.

Although the eight Mahayana sects and the two Hinayana sects are each special, they all cannot be separated from the four stages of practice of "faith, understanding, practice and verification". First, there is faith, then understanding the meaning, then practicing, and finally achieving the fruit. Faith is the first step, so it is also the first of the seven holy wealth.

Of course, this faith refers to the right faith, all faith and wisdom faith, rather than superstition, partial faith and false faith. Otherwise, partial hearing and partial faith will only make you farther and farther away from the Buddha, which is equivalent to going in the opposite direction.

Second wealth: Prevent wealth - keep precepts

precepts, also called precepts, Sanskrit is silo .

Most of the precepts of Buddhist practitioners were determined by Shakyamuni Buddha in the past to facilitate everyone to practice and live together.

Of course, after being introduced to China, it has also changed a little according to local conditions. After all, the customs, clothing, housing and transportation habits of the two countries are different, but they are basically all in detail. The real fundamental precepts such as "killing, stealing, adultery, lying and drinking" are all retained.

When Shakyamuni Buddha was about to pass away, Venerable Ananda represented the disciples and people of later generations in the future how to practice. The Buddha simply answered a sentence - let everyone "take precepts as their teacher", that is, use precepts as their teacher.

If people who study Confucianism use "ritual" to restrain themselves and ordinary people use "law" to restrict themselves, then Buddhist disciples should use "precepts" to regulate their words and deeds, especially monks. This is equivalent to the representative of Buddhism in the world, and even the majesty of monks when they sit and lie down.

Therefore, the precepts are ranked second in the seven holy wealth. Only by keeping precepts can we cultivate blessings. It helps us prevent evil, not restraint, but protect.

The third wealth: shame wealth - reflect on

Next is shame wealth. The word "shame" originally comes from Buddhism, but in fact each has its own meaning. But now it is often confused. Let's explain the difference here.

The so-called "shame" mainly refers to reflection on one's own abilities and virtues, and is used to eliminate our "respectfulness" mind.

It seems that everyone sees monks worship Buddhas and Bodhisattvas many times every day, and their foreheads touch the ground and their hands hold the Buddha's feet. They are very respectful and rigorous. Not to mention that some people even have to bow their heads, which means they are a big gift for the five bodies. When they first did it dozens of times, they would definitely sweat all over and pant.

Some laymen will laugh at this as superstition and ignorance. In fact, superstition and ignorance are themselves. These senior brothers worship Buddha not to seek Buddha, but to let go of all their arrogance in front of Buddha. While worshiping all their bodies, it means that all their arrogance has also been let go. This is the beginning of true practice.

Otherwise, you will realize that you are amazing while practicing. You don’t follow the Dharma, and you don’t keep the precepts, and even what the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas say is wrong. No matter how high your wisdom is, you will definitely not be able to practice it. What’s more, humility itself is a part of true wisdom. The stronger the ability, the more peaceful the person. Only half a bottle of water will make a bang.

The fourth wealth: shameful wealth - compassionate

We have mentioned above the shameful shame, and here we will talk about shameful shame, which is also a kind of holy wealth.

If we say that shameful wealth is to face Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and eminent monks and great monks, we should always reflect on our shortcomings in all aspects so as to catch up, shameful wealth is to face groups that are temporarily lower than us, and we will feel sad that we cannot save them.

Everyone knows that our Chinese Buddhism basically belongs to the Mahayana category, which is different from the Hinayana method of concentrating on asceticism and seeking self-liberation first. We attach great importance to "saving others" here and regard this as a part of our own practice.

There are two bad phenomena among us Buddhists, which are because of lack of shame in wealth.

The first type is to just practice alone and ignore other people's affairs, whether it is chanting sutras or chanting Buddha's name, you are completely separated from the world and just want to go to Pure Land as soon as possible. This is actually biased towards Hinayana.

The most extreme example I have ever seen is that I recite the Buddha's name and worship Buddha with all my heart. The family makes the "Buddha's energy soar" but my mother ignored her illness and hospitalized. This is like not even doing the strokes of the "person", let alone becoming a Buddha?

The second type is to be condescending and like to criticize ordinary people or beginners with the attitude of a "cultivator". This seems to be a teaching, but in fact it is equivalent to persuading you to retreat. Few people like this arrogant attitude, and even if what you said makes sense, it becomes unreasonable.

Laozi says that the highest good is like water, and it will benefit all things when people are under the influence. This is the compassion of a true Buddhist and the shame of wealth.

The fifth wealth: Hearing wealth - Hearing more

Next is Hearing wealth. The "hearing" here does not mean that you can smell it with your nose, but that means "listening", that is, listening more and watching more.

After all, it is one of the eight difficulties of learning Buddhism. Now we can see Buddhist scriptures and listen to Buddhism. This is actually a great blessing, but many senior brothers do not cherish it.

It is like Master Xuanzang ( Tang Monk ) that he felt that many Buddhist scriptures were not complete at that time and lacked correct explanations, so he risked the danger of 99 deaths and went to the West to obtain scriptures. After thirteen years, he finally retrieved more Buddhist scriptures. He also studied again and became the best in India, the birthplace of the time.

But later generations do not know the value of this Buddhist scripture, especially now that the printing technology level has been greatly improved. It seems that you can buy more than ten Buddhist scriptures for only a few hundred yuan. Everyone doesn’t think it is precious, it’s just a few books.

But if you really wait until the Dharma-Ending era, Buddhist scriptures will become more and more rare and disappear one by one. You will only regret it too late, so you must read more, listen more, memorize more, and understand more. So you must firmly plant the seeds of Vajra Bodhi in Alaya consciousness. This is the meaning of hearing wealth.

The sixth wealth: giving up wealth - giving up

Next is giving up wealth, that is, giving away charity or giving.

Giving is an extremely important method in Buddhism, especially Mahayana Buddhism . For example, the first degree of the six paramitas of Mahayana Prajna is "giving and saving", while the four immeasurable minds of the great Bodhisattva are "compassion, joy and giving", and there is also giving up here.

Some senior brothers always think that "giving" means giving money to others, so will your own money be less? So they all sneered.

is not actually the case. There are many ways to give. For example, when others are panicked or sad, you give comfort. This is called fearless donation. When others need help, for example, letting a seat, helping one hand is giving, or even a kind smile is giving.

Not to mention preaching to others and teaching yourself various experiences and skills, this is a more special Dharma donation.

And even the most common donation of wealth will never cause you to lose anything. Giving people a rose will leave a fragrance in your hands. It seems that you have given up your wealth, but in fact you have given up your habit of greed and stinginess, and at the same time deepening your good roots, which is equivalent to killing two birds with one stone.

After all, money is something outside the body, and the excess loss has limited impact on you, but the good roots planted will accompany you for generations. It is actually easy to distinguish which one is cost-effective.
