In ancient Japan, there was a monk named Master Kukai. He was the founder of the Shinyan Sect of Japanese Buddhism. In 804 AD, Master Kukai sent the Tang envoy from Japan for the 16th time to go to Chang'an to seek the Dharma. The capital of Tang Dynasty Chang'an is prosperous and majestic, and the grand momentum of a great country. After coming to China, I visited the famous temples of everywhere, and also studied in Luoyang in in Baima Temple . Finally, I worshipped in in Chinese Tantric Buddhism, Huiguo, as my teacher.

Kung Hai lived in Chang'an for one year and eight months and studied for six months, and got all the true teachings of Master Huiguo. However, just when he was studying, Huiguo unfortunately died of illness in the East Pagoda Courtyard of Qinglong Temple. Kung Hai was very sad and wrote the inscription for Huiguo under the order of Dang Xianzong . In the inscription, he called Chang'an the Shendu and personally wrote the "Hitchen of the Tang Dynasty, the former national master of Qinglong Temple of the Tang Dynasty, the inscription of the monk Huiguo ". This inscription has long been lost in China and is preserved in Japan.

Qinglong Temple in Xi'an is the place where Master Kukai studied the Dharma back then. After Master Kukai returned to China, he founded the Buddhist Shinyan Sect in Japan. From the beginning to the middle of the 9th century, there were many monks who entered the Tang Dynasty to seek Dharma. In history, the eight famous masters of the Tang Dynasty, including the Six Family Kūkai, Yuanxing, 1 Yuanren, Huiyuan, Yuanzhen, and Zongrui , once sought Dharma at Qinglong Temple. Therefore, Qinglong Temple is a holy temple in the minds of the Japanese and the ancestral temple of the Shinyan Sect of Japan.

Qinglong Temple is located in the northeast of Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the southern suburbs of Xi'an. It was built in the second year of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty (582). It was named Inspiration Temple . In 711, it was changed to Qinglong Temple. During the Ming Dynasty, the temple was destroyed and the ground buildings were no longer there. In 1982, on the original site of Qinglong Temple, the state built a number of antique buildings such as the Kung Hai Monument and Huiguo Kung Hai Memorial Hall. In 1984, Hall No. 4 was successfully restored, and in 1996 it became the fourth batch of national cultural relics protection units.

Qinglong Temple is divided into two parts: West Courtyard and East Courtyard Temple. The main building of the West Courtyard is a three-story wooden loft Yunfeng Pavilion, which has a typical Tang Dynasty style. The Dongyuan Temple is mainly Huiguo Kooka Memorial Hall. It was funded by various Japanese Shinyan Sects in 1984 and was responsible for the construction of China. It was built on the basis of the remains of the old temple in the early days. It is the first restored Tang Dynasty building in Xi'an and has high appreciation value.

Kaki Master played an important role in the spread of Tang Dynasty culture in Japan. In order to commemorate the sending of the Tang envoy into the Tang Dynasty to study the Dharma, in 1982, China and Japan built a Kūkai monument at Qinglong Temple. The stele was 10 meters high and took the Big Wild Goose Pagoda as a sample. The top of the stele is a five-wheel tower with a unique magic weapon shape unique to Tantric Buddhism. There are four circular spheres at the four corners of , representing four places. The construction cost of was donated by Kagawa, Tokushima, Ai'an and Kochi in Japan.

There is a garden in the west courtyard of Qinglong Temple, where cherry blossom is the most famous. In 1986, Qinglong Temple introduced thousands of cherry blossoms from Japan and planted them in the temple. These cherry blossoms have a complete variety and are of all kinds, making it a good place for tourists to enjoy cherry blossoms. In 2022, Qinglong Temple was selected as one of the top ten cherry blossom sites in China.

Qinglong Temple is a symbol of friendship between China and Japan. In 1997, it was the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. The Japanese Buddhist community donated a statue of Master Kōkai to Chinese . However, this Buddha statue was not placed in Qinglong Temple, but was standing on the west side of the cool platform of White Horse Temple. Friends who are interested can go and take a look.
