I saw the name Yuan Kuang in a comment under an article. I forgot which scenery in Weihai it was about. Anyway, the comment said that this is not as good as the small fishing village of Yuan Kuang. The name is easy to remember. From then on, Yuankuang became the image of a beautiful fishing village in my mind.

The houses in in Yuankuang Village are no longer seaweed houses. Like most village houses, they have become red-tiled houses. Therefore, there is no view in the village, and you have to climb up to get there. There is a step road on the northwest side of the village to go up the mountain. The Chashan Zen Temple we are going to talk about today is on the mountain. It is located on the south side of Qingliangding, the highest peak of Chashan Mountain.

Go up the steps all the way, about one kilometer away, and you will arrive at the entrance of the Zen Temple. The temple is currently semi-open. It is said that it is for forest fire prevention requirements, but admission is waived. As for what will happen in the future, it is unknown.

Chashan Zen Temple is a newly built temple. It took about eight years to build. It has not been completely completed yet, but the interior of the Zen temple has been basically repaired. After entering the Zen temple, you will be guided around by laymen. As soon as you enter the door, you will see a screen wall. In front of the screen wall stand two cartoon little monks. It can be seen that the abbot of the temple is not old-fashioned.

There is a tall golden standing statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva in the courtyard, as well as four smaller seated statues of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra , Manjusri and Guanyin Bodhisattva . The main hall is currently not open to the public, mainly because there are relatively few staff and it is difficult to maintain hygiene in the hall.

Although the main hall cannot be entered, the person leading the tour opened the door and we were able to have a full view of the hall. After just one glance, I rated it No. 1 in Weihai. From the Buddha statues to the wall reliefs to the caisson , this main hall is all exquisite and gorgeous. As a newly built temple, it can be seen that a lot of money and effort have been invested to reach this level. I heard from friends that the investment in this temple is nearly 100 million. Because the temple is located on a mountain and construction is difficult, a cable car was specially built to transport building materials.

The scenery on the way down the mountain is beautiful. You can have a panoramic view of Yuankuang, as well as the fishing port pier of Yuankuang Village and Sushan Island in the distance. Yuankuang Village is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the sea on one side. The air is fresh and humid. It is said that many residents from other provinces and cities have moved here. We specially went to the restaurant in the village to try the seasonal seafood.
